Although Johnson isn’t in the light heavyweight division, there really wasn’t too many available fighters to replace Kessler on this short notice. Johnson will now be facing Allan Green next in what will likely be the only fight for Johnson in the Super six tournament. For him to make it into the semi finals, he will have to knockout Green and then get help from the other Super Six fighters. Johnson has lost two out of his last three fights, however.

Those aren’t exactly the highest credentials as he goes into the tournament. Johnson looked flabby in his last fight against International Boxing Federation light heavyweight champion Tavoris Cloud in August. Johnson lost that fight by a 12 round decision, despite outworking Cloud through much of the fight. It wasn’t that Johnson wasn’t throwing a lot of punches; It was that his power was totally missing, as he mainly slapped with his shots and had the appearance of someone who wasn’t in good physical shape.

However, even if Johnson looks the same against Green, he’ll have a much better chance of winning the fight because Green showed little in his 12 round decision loss to Andre Ward in June. Green’s work rate was terrible and Johnson will have a good chance of out-landing him unless Green is able to ramp up his offense a couple of notches. This isn’t the ideal opponent if you’re looking for someone in the super middleweight division, because Johnson is fighting at light heavyweight, and he’s clearly been beaten a quite a few times during his career.
