Danny Garcia: Khan should beat Julio Diaz

diaz33By Scott Gilfoid: WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia believes Amir Khan (27-3, 19 KO’s) has the speed and the youth to get by former IBF lightweight champion Julio Diaz (40-7-1, 29 KO’s) next month on April 27th at the Motorpoint Arena, Sheffield, Yorkshire, United Kingdom.

However, Garcia doesn’t know whether or not Khan has actually improved or not under his new trainer Virgil Hunter because he’s still not being put in with quality world class opposition. Diaz, 33, may have been a world champion 8 years ago, but he’s not the same fighter now, and he’s an unranked welterweight fighting above his best weight by two divisions.

The best/worst thing since the Super Six and Bantamweight Tournament

garcia43By James Le Blanc: Golden Boy has announced they will be holding a 4 man tournament at 140 pounds consisting of Zab Judah vs. Danny Garcia and Lamont Peterson vs. Lucas Matthysse. The winners will fight each other and then the ultimate winner of the tournament will more than likely face Amir Khan.  Amir Khan is in the process of returning to 140lb supremacy after losing a controversial decision to Peterson and then a 4th round knockout loss to Danny Garcia. People have different takes on the Super Six tournament. One thing we know about the tournament is that it left out title holder Lucian Bute for some reason.

Bute is arguably not one of the best Super middleweights as Carl Froch made easy work of him post tournament. And then there were a number of fighters that backed out of fights and needed last minute replacements to ensure the tournament went on.

Rios-Alvarado, Matthysse-Peterson, Garcia-Judah preview and analysis

rios22By Andrew Garewal: Arguably the most dangerous and exciting division in boxing today is at light welterweight. At 140 lbs, boxers possess uncanny speed, elusive footwork and explosive power. Nowhere in boxing is there such an array of talent in which multiple fighters could be crowned legitimate champions in their own right.

In other weight classes there is a recognized unified champion or it’s ruled by few respective champions. Heavyweights are dominated by the Klitschkos; super middleweight and middleweight is handled by Andre Ward and Sergio Martinez; Mayweather is at the helm of the junior middleweight and welterweight divisions; Broner has run through the super featherweight and lightweight divisions; Donaire and Rigondeaux are about to establish the leader at super bantamweight. No other division in boxing displays the competitiveness and uncertainty of a reigning king than that of light welterweight.

Judah-Garcia: Zab gets another crack at a title

judah2By Allan Fox: 35-year-old Zab Judah (42-7, 29 KO’s) will be fighting for another world title when he steps up and faces WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (25-0, 16 KO’s) next month on April 27th at the Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, New York, USA.

Judah was recently knocked out by Amir Khan in a 5th round TKO in July of 2011, but Judah came back from that loss to defeat fringe 140 lb. contender Vernon Paris to be given another shot at a title.

With the light welterweight division having few recognizable names for casual boxing fans, Judah has kind of become what Evander Holyfield was to the heavyweight division in getting title shots without having to do a whole lot because he’s got a name that fans can recognize.

Khan: I want to beat Garcia and Peterson before I move up to 147

khan01By Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan (27-3, 19 KO’s) has set a goal for himself before he moves up to the welterweight division to go after the big names in that weight class. Khan wants to avenge his losses to WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia and IBF champion Lamont Peterson before he steps up in weight to the welterweight division.

Khan doesn’t mention wanting to try and avenge his knockout loss to Breidis Prescott, oddly enough.

Khan said to espn.co.uk “I still want to fight at 140 pounds and win titles before I look at stepping up. I am still happy at this weight but not many fighters want to take me on. The main two I want are Peterson and Garcia, but they couldn’t happen at this time.”

Amir Khan vs. Danny Garcia 2: Who will win?

khan468By Gibran Samad: All boxing fans know that 2012 was a great year for boxing with many action packed fights and many upset KO’s, one of them being Danny Garcia’s 4th round TKO win over Amir Khan. Amir had a good start for the first couple of rounds, catching Danny with a few blistering combinations and cutting him with the right hand. Amir was using his blazing speed and flurry of punches to get to Danny. He had his speed that night, but not his head movement.

In round 3, Khan was throwing his flash flurry of shots when Garcia threw his dynamite left, catching Khan cold in an exchange. With Amir’s arms flying, he hit the canvass and made it back up. He was clearly still hurt and was saved by the bell. Round 4 came and Garcia was on the hunt, he then dropped Amir about 2 times before referee Kenny Bayless called a stop to the fight. After that night, Danny has been on a roll with 2 KO victories over the legendary Mexican Erik Morales.

Judah vs. Garcia winner must face Matthysse next, says WBC

matthysse8By Dan Ambrose: It looks like WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (25-0, 16 KO’s) will finally have to face WBC interim light welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse (33-2, 31 KO’s) if Garcia can get past his next title defense against Zab Judah (42-7, 29 KO’s) on April 27th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

The World Boxing Council has ordered the Judah-Garcia winner to fight Matthysse in their next fight, according to fightnews.com. That’s probably not what Judah and Garcia wanted to hear because Matthysse is probably the most dangerous fighter in the 140 pound division right now, and he may be the #1 fighter at this weight.

Judah: Garcia’s having second thoughts after seeing Matthysse fight

judah2By Dan Ambrose: Zab Judah (42-7, 29 KO’s) thinks WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (25-0, 16 KO’s) started getting cold feet about the idea of facing him on February 9th after seeing how devastating Lucas Matthysse looked this past weekend in destroying Mike Dallas Jr. by a 1st round knockout win. Judah beat Matthysse by a 12 round decision two years ago in a close fight.

Judah thinks an out of shape Garcia decided he wasn’t ready physically or mentally to fight Judah in February after seeing that fight. Garcia has decided to use a fake injury excuse about his ribs to buy more time to get in shape and to try and get ready for the fight, Judah believes.

Will the WBC force Danny Garcia to fight Matthysse?

matthysse11By Dan Ambrose: Now that WBC interim light welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse (33-2, 31 KO’s) blown through yet another opponent and proven himself as arguably the #1 fighter at 140, it’s going to be interesting to see if the World Boxing Council will finally do their job by forcing the WBC 140 pound champion Danny Garcia to fight Matthysse or if they’ll continue to let Garcia pick and choose from the aging veterans of the sport.

Matthysse, 30, is Garcia’s mandatory challenger, and he wants the title shot while he’s still young. Garcia is 24, so if the WBC doesn’t force Garcia to fight Matthysse, we could see Garcia continuing to milk his title with fights the older guys instead of Matthysse.

Judah: Danny Garcia is a faker and a liar!

garcia34By Dan Ambrose: Zab Judah isn’t buying the excuse WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia made for not being able to fight him on February 9th. Garcia reportedly injured his ribs in a sparring session with DeMarcus Corley, and that’s why he can’t fight Judah until April 27th.

When Corley was asked about the injury in an interview from the Koncrete Jungle, Corley said it’s not Garcia’s ribs that are injured, it’s his right thumb. Corley said Garcia had went to the doctor for this problem. What’s unclear is why the thumb wasn’t mentioned as the reason for Garcia postponing the fight?
