zab judahBy Dan Ambrose: Zab Judah doesn’t care that WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia reportedly suffered a rib injury while training for their now cancelled fight on Showtime on February 9th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Judah still wants to fight on that date, and he’s hoping his team will be able to find a suitable replacement so that he can fight in the main event on that card.

Judah said this on his twitter “This is who I’m really fighting. A boy, not a man. Lol @DannySwift boy I’m on to you!! Ok its official @DannySwift has Blocked me from his twitter aint this a blimp? Matthysse: I don’t need judges anymore; I hope Garcia doesn’t avoid me

16(Photo credit: Naoki Fakuda) By Allan Fox: WBC interim light welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse (33-2, 31 KO’s) decided after suffering two controversial losses in the United States to Zab Judah and Devon Alexander that he was no longer going to let the judges have any say so in his fights in the U.S, and so he’s turned the judges into meaningless spectators the last three times he’s fought in the U.S by knocking out all three of his opponents.

Last night, Matthysse stopped Mike Dallas Jr. (19-3-1, 8 KO’s) in the 1st round at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Matthysse flattened an overanxious Dallas Jr. with a solid right to the head that sent Dallas Jr. down face first on the canvas.

Rafael: Danny Garcia has rib injury; Judah fight might be postponed

Dany Garcia(Photo credit: Ester Lin/Showtime) By Dan Ambrose: Dan Rafael of ESPN is reporting that WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia has a rib injury, and it’s possible that his February 9th title defense against Zab Judah will be postponed because of it.

Rafael said on his twitter “I’m told the Danny Garcia has a rib problem, which is why the Super Judah fight might be postponed.”

So there it is. Garcia has a rib injury that could cause the fight to be put off for a while until his injury heal, but it makes you wonder why Garcia didn’t just say that last night. Why keep quiet about it?

Danny Garcia fails to deny rumors he’s pulling out of Judah fight

garcia45By Dan Ambrose: WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia is rumored to be pulling out of his fight this Monday with 35-year-old Zab Judah, according to Steve Kim of maxboxing.com. With Judah skewering him in messages on twitter late last night, the only thing Garcia could offer up was this brief comment: “I’m ready for whoever!”

That doesn’t sound like a denial, does it? Boxing fans that were looking forward to the February 9th fight between Garcia and Judah are still hoping this is just a sick joke and that Garcia will choose to fight Judah as scheduled, but you have to wonder why Garcia didn’t confront the rumors head on last night when given the opportunity. Garcia’s usually vocal father, Angel Garcia, has been oddly quiet about the news of Garcia possibly pulling out of the fight.

Garcia v Judah: A boxing conundrum

Zab Judah(Photo credit: Ester Lin/Showtime) By Ben Walton: A pugilistic storm is brewing. On Feb 9th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, hometown veteran Zab Judah, takes on the young unbeaten WBA/WBC champion Danny swift Garcia. Now to many fans and scribes this will be nothing short of an easy nights work at the office for young Danny, out-boxing and possibly stopping the old, past it Judah. But I really think we need to look at this a little deeper before we completely dispel any notion of Zab Judah doing the impossible.

First lets look at Zab. Former 5 time world champ over 2 weight divisions, still a fighter who has decent speed, good skills and a good seasoned boxing brain. But now a man who at 35 has without doubt seen his better days pass him by. But is a 35 year old Zab really that bad to not even be in with a shout against in my opinion, a very flat footed, basic skilled, relative novice in Danny Garcia?

Matthysse looking past Dallas Jr, wants Danny Garcia

matthysse22By Allan Fox: WBC interim light welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse (32-2, 30 KO’s) has his eyes on a big fight against WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia this year if he can get him to agree to fight him. Matthysse has a fight scheduled this Saturday night against Mike Dallas Jr. (19-2-1, 8 KO’s) at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, The Joint, in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

After that fight Matthysse wants Garcia in his next bout. The World Boxing Council has already ordered Garcia to fight Matthysse the end of the year, and if that fails to take place then Garcia will almost surely be stripped of his WBC title. He would still have his WBA belt, so there’s a possibility that he may choose not to fight Matthysse.

Judah vs. Garcia: Zab will have to get Danny’s respect early or else

judah433By Allan Fox: 35-year-old Zab Judah is considered a big underdog in his fight next month against WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

It’s not that Judah has been getting beaten a lot lately that he’s an underdog in this fight, it’s the fact that he hasn’t beaten anyone good for ages and also how poor he looked in getting blasted out by Amir Khan last year in a 5th round knockout loss.

Judah is going to have to land something big early in the fight to keep Garcia from walking him down and bludgeoning him into submission with his left hooks. Garcia has a good left hook and he’ll be looking to use it a lot against Judah if he’s not met with any resistance early in the fight.

Will the WBC force Danny Garcia to fight Matthysse this year?

matthysse1By Dan Ambrose: WBC interim light welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse is the mandatory challenger for WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia, and he’s hoping that Garcia will finally agree to fight him after the two of them get past their next opponents. Matthysse faces Mike Dallas Jr. this Saturday night on Showtime in Las Vegas, Nevada, and Garcia defends his WBA/WBC light welterweight titles against 35-year-old Zab Judah next month on February 9th in Brooklyn, New York.

Matthysse wants to fight Garcia after the Dallas Jr. fight, but it’s unclear if Garcia will agree to take that fight because his promoter Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions is talking about having Garcia fight former IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan after. The Khan fight is a much bigger money bout for Garcia than the Matthysse fight, and it doesn’t take a genius to see that’s going to be the one that Garcia goes after next following his defense against Judah.

Khan vs. Garcia 2: Who will have improved the most?

garcia56By Craig Hilton: It is one of boxing fans’ most anticipated fights and it’s going to happen sooner or later: Khan (30 – 27 -3) vs. Danny Garcia (25- 0) is expected to be a thriller and show how much both men have learned since their first match.

Neither fighter has fought strong opposition since their first meeting; Garcia fighting a shot Morales and Khan fighting lightweight prospect, Carlos Molina (18 – 17 – 1). I think it’s fair to say that both fighters have a lot of weaknesses and there is still a lot of work to be done in the gym.
