Can Audley still be a contender?

Earlier tonight, 41-year-old Audley Harrison for the second time has took the Prizefighter title at Ŷork Hall London. To me, Audley is an enigma. A former Olympic champion, Audley Harrison has flattered to deceive, but tonight, he finally looked like the fighter that won a gold medal in Sydney.

Thompson smashes Price

price46By Steven Ocallaghan: David Price (15-1, 13 KO’s) was just knocked out and I’m still in shock. Price has just been knocked out in the 2nd round by veteran American Tony Thompson. I must admit m still in shock at how easy Price was knocked out. Price seamed to be in control but I suppose in the heavyweight division, if a guy who is almost 19st lands, it will hurt but it wasn’t a clean punch. What I’m most worried about Price is his inability to take a punch.

Price said the punches that hurt you are the ones you don’t see. I hate being hard on big Pricey but he is wrong. If he can’t see Thompson’s punches coming he is not going to go anywhere. He admitted he didn’t see it.

Rogan hopes to end Audley Harrison’s career on Saturday night In Prizefighter

rogan455By Scott Gilfoid: 41-year-old Martin Rogan (15-3, 7 KO’s) is hoping to put 41-year-old Audley Harrison (28-6, 21 KO’s) out of his misery on Saturday night in the Prizefigther tournament at the York Hall, Bethnal Green, London, United Kingdom. Rogan, who hasn’t exactly been the most active of heavyweights in the last couple of years, feels he’s got what it takes to do the job on the 6’5” former 2000 Olympic gold medalist Harrison on Saturday.

Rogan said to fightnews.com “Audley has been fooling himself and the British public for too long. It’s time to end him once and for all and I would love to be the man to do it. I am desperate to face him again…and I’ll beat him again and throw A-Face out of boxing for good.”

Audley Harrison wants rematch against David Price

harrison564By Scott Gilfoid: 41-year-old struggling heavyweight Audley Harrison (28-6, 21 KO’s) says he wouldn’t mind getting a rematch against unbeaten David Price, who knocked him out in the 1st round last October in another fight where Harrison threw almost no punches before getting taken out. Harrison did the same thing in his 3rd round knockout loss to former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye in November 2010 in this pay per view fiasco.

Harrison said to the dailystar.co.uk “I’m back, and I would love to fight David Price. He took me out and I would like the opportunity to avenge that…It made me look bad…It’s not over yet. I was too hyped up for the Price fight.”

Dirrell training with Mayweather Sr; Audley Harrison to compete in Prizefighter

harrison564By Scott Gilfoid: Super middleweight Andre Dirrell (20-1, 14 KO’s) is being trained by Floyd Mayweather Sr to get ready for a fight coming up in the next few months. The talented Dirrell was rumored to be fighting Rowland Bryant but that fight doesn’t appear to be on the plate for Dirrell.

Dirrell told Chris Robinson at hustleboss.com “He’s a great trainer and the work is nothing less than perfect so I’m enjoying it. I’m just sharpening up my skills to give a more crowd pleasing performance.”

Dirrell hasn’t fought since blowing out Darryl Cunningham by a 2nd round knockout in December 2011. Dirrell is being promoted by 50 Cent now and hopefully he can get this amazing talent some fights because Dirrell is too good for him to be wasting away like this while lesser talents hold titles in the super middleweight division.

Audley Harrison to fight on

Image: Audley Harrison to fight onBy Mark Turley: Audley Harrison, recently demolished in a minute-and-a-half by David Price in Liverpool, has stunned British fight fans by claiming divine intervention and announcing his desire to fight on. Commenting today on his Twitter page, Harrison said, “A decision has come from above. He told me son ‘lace up your gloves’ your time as a boxer is not quite done, so go out there & have some fun. Its official… I’ve decided to carry on. One more shot at glory. It could be over; next fight will tell me. See u in a ring real soon.”

His crushing defeat to Price came only two years after an abject performance against David Haye, in which Audley was knocked out in 3 rounds after failing to throw a punch. There would seem to be little appetite among the British public to watch Harrison knock out a couple stiffs before folding again against higher class opposition and many feel he may decide to pursue his career in the USA, where he now lives.

Audley Harrison: I’m itching to go again

Image: Audley Harrison: I'm itching to go againBy Scott Gilfoid: It’s not enough that 40-year-old Audley Harrison (28-6, 21 KO’s) is coming off of a 90 second knockout loss to British heavyweight champion David Price (14-0, 12 KO’s) earlier this month in yet another humiliating loss, but now Harrison says he’s eager to get back in the ring and continue with his sagging boxing career. I wonder which up and coming British heavyweight will use him for a stepping stone now? We’ve already seen David Haye and Price use Audley for that purpose. That leaves Dereck Chisora and Tyson Fury still to go.

Harrison said on his twitter page “I looked at the tape [of the Price fight] and saw my mistake. Price advantage with a brutal finish, but I think I may have to roll the dice one more time…I’m itching to go again.”

Price victory over Harrison proved nothing

Image: Price victory over Harrison proved nothingBy John F. McKenna (McJack): British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion David Price (14-0, 12 KO’s) made quick work of the hapless Audley Harrison (28-6, 21 KO’s) on Saturday night, taking just 80 seconds to dispose of his latest heavyweight victim. Harrison, who as usual talked a good fight ahead of time, proved to be anything but a real challenge for Price. The fight or the lack thereof, bore striking similarities to Audley’s non-performance against then WBA heavyweight champion David Haye in November 2010.

In the Haye fight, Harrison had a look of fear and panic on his face and offered no resistance to the “Hayemaker” who stopped Audley in the 3rd round. The British Boxing Board of Control (BBBC) withheld a portion of Harrison’s purse in the Haye fight until an investigation could be held. The BBBC later relented and gave Audley his entire share of the purse.

Audley Harrison nursing a broken nose, unsure if he’ll retire

Image: Audley Harrison nursing a broken nose, unsure if he'll retireBy William Mackay: Audley Harrison (28-6, 21 KO’s) suffered a broken nose while in the process of getting knocked out quickly in the 1st round last Saturday night against British heavyweight champion David Price (14-0, 12 KO’s). Harrison, 40, now is trying to figure out what to do with what’s left of his 11 year pro career. Harrison has lost two out of his last three fights, and he’s never really been a factor on the world stage.

Harrison had promised that he was going to come out aggressively against Price last Saturday night at the Echo Arena in Liverpool. Unfortunately, instead of coming out aggressively and throwing punches, Harrison stood there straight up like a flagpole waiting for an opening to present itself.
