Adrien Broner: Between a rock and a hard place

broner8583by Jordan C: After the defeat came, after the cameras were off, after the hype bubble had been burst by Marcos Maidana, Adrien Broner reportedly spoke to the press. He called for a rematch without a tuneup, according to sources. He said he’d be back.

Back to where?

We had seen Broner’s weaknesses before. They were apparent in his fight against Paulie Malignaggi. They presented themselves again in his fight against Marcos Maidana. This was not an off night. This was not an accident.

Broner pelted with trash as he leaves ring after loss

bronerdumpedonBy Dan Ambrose: Right about now Adrien Broner (27-1, 22 KO’s) probably wishes he had stuck around after his fight last night against Marcos Maidana (35-3, 31 KO’s) to give a post-fight interview instead of quickly exciting the ring after the judges’ scorecards were announced. Broner looked like a poor sport by leaving without giving an interview.

Broner, who lost the fight to Maidana by a 12 round unanimous decision, was pelted with trash from the Alamodome crowd while he was exiting the ring. It was as if Broner and his entourage had to run a gauntlet in getting to their dressing room, as bottles were tossed from the angry crowd left and right.

Trainer Robert Garcia turns Maidana into a winner and a complete fighter

maidana76By Allen Hmiel: Trainer Robert Garcia obviously has done a remarkable job in re-creating Marcos Maidana (35-3, 31 KO’s) into a complete fighter and boxer. In the past, Maidana used to be a one dimensional slow wild punching fighter relying on a knock out to win his big fights.

Now after watching Maidana dismantle and embarrass the arrogant once undefeated WBA welterweight champion Adrien Broner (27-1, 22 KO’s) in giving him a sound beating at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, we witnessed a boxing transformation of epic proportion with Maidana.

Adrien Broner exposed by Maidana and here’s why

maidana74By Rav: After Adrian Broner’s defeat last night to Marcos Maidana (35-3, 31 KO’s) in losing his WBA title, what’s clear is a lot of flaws have been exposed which show what Broner is really about. Maidana’s game plan of unsettling Broner early by roughing him up worked and the volume of body and head punches left Broner unsure what to do next and made him doubt himself to the point where he was scared to let his hands go similar to Julio Chavez Jr. against Sergio Martinez.

Broner’s arrogance showed in his corner at times with him displaying open defiance to his trainer, who was trying to instruct him with good advice. But round after round, Broner had no answer with what Maidana was doing in the ring. At times, Broner looked scared to show a sense of urgency to go after Maidana the way he should have.

Malignaggi wants Marcos Maidana next

maidana424242By Eric Thomas: Former WBA 147 lb. champion Paulie Malignaggi (33-5, 7 KO’s) says he wants to fight Marcos Maidana (35-3, 31 KO’s) next, following Maidana’s upset victory over Adrien Broner (27-1, 22 KO’s) last night at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. Malignaggi, who worked the fight for Showtime as an analyst, said he liked what he saw from Maidana. But Malignaggi also feels that his style matches up well with his.

When asked by Chris Robinson of Hustleboss if he’d like to fight Maidana next, Malignaggi said “Yes!” The next question was ‘Why do you think you can beat him.” Malignaggi said “Because I throw punches, not like Adrien Broner.”

How Marcos Maidana Toppled the King in Waiting

maidana88By James Connell: The sound and fury that has been built by Golden Boy, Al Haymon’s team, HBO, Showtime and everyone else who has had a stake on Adrien Broner’s success, will now hopefully be quiet for a short while after Broner lost a deserved unanimous decision to Marcos Maidana.

The boxing press – including several prominent contributors to this site – didn’t give Maidana a cat’s chance in hell against boxing’s, supposed, next pay-per-view star, and the self-acclaimed heir to Floyd Mayweather’s pound-for-pound title. One can only wonder at why the odds on Maidana were so long: his style, punching-power and weight were all wrong for Broner; it’s fine to have expected Broner to win, but this fight, at its widest, was only ever a 60-40 one in favour of Broner.

Broner: I want a rematch; I don’t need warm-up

broner73737By Allan Fox: Adrien Broner (27-1, 22 KO’s) says he wants an immediate rematch against Marcos Maidana (35-3, 31 KO’s) and he doesn’t want a tune-up/warm up fight to get him ready before facing him again. Broner wants the fight straight away to try and avenge his 12 round unanimous decision loss from last night at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

Broner was knocked down twice by big Maidana left hooks, and wobbled on least two other occasions in the fight. However, Broner doesn’t have a rematch clause in the contract with Maidana, so if there’s going to be a rematch it’ll be because Maidana wants it.

What we learnt from Broner-Maidana

bronerdown4by Fionnlough: Some people hate Adrien Broner (27-1, 22 KO’s), because he is loud mouthed. And so his loss to Marcos Maidana (35-3, 31 KO’s) last night by a 12 round unanimous decision in San Antonio, Texas has been particularly satisfying for many boxing fans. I enjoy watching Broner, I will put that out there, but will still try to be fair in this article.

We learnt (confirmed for some) that the cockiness that made Broner a star on TV is also a weakness

Many will say this is an excuse, but Broner has fallen victim to success.

Maidana conquers Broner: All aboard the hype train

maidana45111By Jamie Eskdale: On Saturday night the hype train rolled out of the station in San Antonio Texas packed with dreams of being the next big star. 47 minutes later it crashed into the buffers destroying those dreams.

In this case the hype train was Adrien ‘The Problem’ Broner and those buffers were Marcos ‘el Chino’ Maidana.

This was supposed to be a step up for Broner sure. However, this was never supposed to happen. Broner like his idol Floyd Mayweather Jr., live by their unbeaten record and this could turn out to be so damaging for him. This wasn’t some unbeaten unknown quantity he was up against.

Maidana: I’m ready to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr.

maidana0003By Eric Thomas: Now that Marcos Maidana (35-3, 31 KO’s) has defeated Adrien Broner (27-1, 22 KO’s) by a 12 round unanimous decision to capture his WBA welterweight title by beating hm by a 12 round unanimous decision last night at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, Maidana now is very interested in facing Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26 KO’s) on May 3rd.

Maidana wants the big money fight that many boxing fans feel will go to Amir Khan. Maidana certainly proved that he deserves a fight against Mayweather Jr. last night by beating his slower, younger, smaller and less talented clone in Broner by the scores 117-109, 115-109, 115-110.
