Yo Adrien! There’s Only One Floyd Mayweather

broner84442By Chester Rivers: First, as an African-American male I apologize for the ignorance of Adrien Broner. The dry hump maneuver was a display of ignorance and poor taste. Secondly, I accept all the apologies of the readers who replied negatively to my article “Top 5 Under 25” when I purposely omitted Adrien Broner’s name. Now on with the rest of the article.

There’s only one word to describe what we witnessed between Adrien Broner and the new W.B.A. welterweight champ Marcos Marcos Maidana and that is EXPOSED!

Broner runs out of ring after loss to Maidana

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS (Dec. 15, 2013)—Argentine slugger Marcos “El Chino” Maidana stole the show—and the WBA Welterweight World Championship—on an action-packed night of world championship boxing on SHOWTIME Saturday night at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

The 30-year-old former 140-pound world champion was supposed to be a “test” for rising star Adrien “The Problem” Broner’s budding career. And test him he did, right from the opening bell.

Will Broner ask Maidana for rematch?

BronerMaidana_Hoganphotos(Photo credit: Hogan Photos) By Gerardo Granados: Tonight at San Antonio, Texas, the former three division world champion Adrien Broner (27-1, 22 KO’s) was defeated and lost his WBA welterweight belt to a hungry lion named Marcos “Chino” Maidana (35-3, 31 KO’s) at the Alamodome.

It was a big upset and a genuine pleasure to see the courageous performance of Maidana who had struggled in the past against skilled boxers. This bout made me remember a fight that took place many years ago between Prince Naseem Hamed and Marco Antonio Barrera.

Chino not only out-punched and out-landed Broner but he also out willed himself to win by 12 round unanimous decision. I had the fight scored 117-109 for Maidana.

Maidana beats Broner: Problem Solved

maidana555(Photo credit: Tom Casino/Showtime) by Jordan Capobianco: Everyone who knew anything about boxing said Adrien Broner would win by unanimous decision. Everyone who knew anything about boxing said Marcos Maidana was dangerous, would come out strong, and slowly fade through a combination of Broner’s punches and the energy expenditure of his own missed or blocked shots. The boxer was supposed to elude and attack, the puncher was supposed to punch and fade.

Everyone who knew anything about boxing said Maidana would win 3-4 rounds, most likely the early ones, and Broner would dominate from there. Even Maidana himself said he needed a knockout to win since he wouldn’t get a decision. And everyone was wrong.

Maidana decisions Broner in upset; Thurman defeats Soto Karass

BronerMaidana_Hoganphotos1(Photo credit: Hogan Photos) By Allan Fox: Marcos Maidana (35-3, 31 KO’s) pulled off a huge upset tonight in defeating WBA welterweight champion Adrien Broner (27-1, 22 KO’s) by a 12 round unanimous decision on Saturday night at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. The final judges scores were 115-110, 116-109, 117-109.

Maidana knocked Broner down in the 2nd and 8th rounds with tremendous left hooks to the head. Broner was badly hurt in the 2nd round, as he got up on weak legs and took punishment for the entire round. It’s surprising that Broner was able to make it out of the round.

Will Adrien Broner be a superstar after tonight?

8888433(Photo credit: Tom Casino/Showtime) By Rav: With WBA welterweight champion Adrien Broner (27-0, 22 KO’s) facing hard hitting Marcos Maidana (34-3, 31 KO’s) tonight, I’m struggling to see where is this superstar status coming from for Broner and here are the facts. Amir Khan as a prospect was selling out arenas in the UK fighting pretty much bums, but tickets were sold like hot cakes and also his fights were PPV.

We have seen Ricky Hatton, David Haye and Carl Froch sell 20,000 + tickets in no time and do tremendous pay-per-view numbers too. Last February, Broner fought Gavin Rees in front of barely 4,000 fans in Atlantic City, New Jersey. So where were his superstar fans? It seems to me Broner struggles to sell tickets. He also fought Paulie Malignaggi in his hometown in Brooklyn, New York last June, with the Malignaggi pulling in the majority.

Schaefer wants Broner vs. Mayweather mega-fight

0000(Photo credit: Tom Casino/Showtime) By Dan Ambrose: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer isn’t content with his young star WBA welterweight champion Adrien Broner (27-0, 22 KO’s) slowly climbing his way to the top to become a mega pay-per-view star.

Schaefer wants to hurry it along by having Broner face the unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26 KO’s) in 2014. But the thing is, Schaefer needs the boxing public to help him out by creating pressure on the two fighters to face each other in the ring, because both of them are good friends.

Hittable Broner: A Quick Thought

broner222By Michael Byrne: WBA welterweight champion Adrien Broner (27-0, 22 KO’s) has dismissed Marcos Maidana’s power by claiming power is useless if you can’t land your punches, thereby claiming his speed and defensive capabilities will leave Maidana (34-3, 31 KO’s) missing all night in their fight tonight on Showtime at the Alamodome in San Antonio Texas.

Former WBA welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi was able to find Broner all night with beautiful combinations last June, although Broner did take the sting off a lot of these shots with his gloves. And Malignaggi is a much faster, accurate puncher than Maidana.

Broner: I’m flat-lining Maidana if he comes with some dumb s***

444(Photo credit: Tom Casino/Showtime) By Allan Fox: WBA welterweight champion Adrien Broner (27-0, 22 KO’s) says he’ll knock challenger Marcos Maidana (34-3, 31 KO’s) out immediately in the 1st or 2nd rounds if he comes out aggressively tonight in their fight at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

Broner feels that for Maidana to be able to hang around in this fight then he’s going to have to fight very carefully so that he doesn’t walk into anything big from him. In other words, Maidana will need to fight like Paulie Malignaggi did by staying mostly on the outside throwing jabs and trying to avoid Broner’s single pot shots.

Broner said at yesterday’s weigh-in “If he comes in there with some dumb s***, I’m flat-lining him. Easy money.”

Does Adrien Broner Have A World Class Chin?

665(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Chester Rivers: A few months ago I penned my opinion about who I thought was the top 5 fighters under the age of 25. One name that was omitted was 24 year old Adrien Broner and the readers let me hear their opinions through negative comments and replies. This Saturday December 14, 2013, young Broner will have his chance to prove me wrong against hard hitting Argentine Marcos Maidana in San Antonio, Texas.

Some of you asked me why Broner’s name was omitted. I based my opinion largely on Broner’s limited resume against true punchers. Broner has only face one true power puncher Daniel Ponce De Leon. Against De Leon many feel Broner loss the fight because he struggled with De Leon’s power and awkward style.
