Chris Eubank Jr – Badblood aftermath

eubank55555By Rav: Chris Eubank Jr lost a 12 round split decision to Billy Joe Saunders in a big grudge match for the British, European and Commonwealth titles of which we learned a great deal about Eubank Jr.

Eubank Jr hadn’t fought anyone of this level before this bout and it showed in the early rounds he looked tense and at times looked unable to counter what Saunders was doing. Eubank Jr a full team athlete showed his stamina and endurance in the middle to late rounds getting stronger while Saunders tired and started to survive.

Kell Brook – The new Danger man at 147

brook87555By Rav: Last Saturday night, Kell Brook (33-0, 22 KOs) put on a boxing master-class to become the first British fighter to win a world title in America in 28 years by schooling IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter in a 12 round decision victory at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

Kell looked well prepared made the weight well and looked in exceptional shape ready for 12 rounds. He handled and nullified Porter’s early onslaught raging in like a bull well and made him miss and countered him well letting Porter burn energy in the early rounds.

Adrien Broner exposed by Maidana and here’s why

maidana74By Rav: After Adrian Broner’s defeat last night to Marcos Maidana (35-3, 31 KO’s) in losing his WBA title, what’s clear is a lot of flaws have been exposed which show what Broner is really about. Maidana’s game plan of unsettling Broner early by roughing him up worked and the volume of body and head punches left Broner unsure what to do next and made him doubt himself to the point where he was scared to let his hands go similar to Julio Chavez Jr. against Sergio Martinez.

Broner’s arrogance showed in his corner at times with him displaying open defiance to his trainer, who was trying to instruct him with good advice. But round after round, Broner had no answer with what Maidana was doing in the ring. At times, Broner looked scared to show a sense of urgency to go after Maidana the way he should have.

Will Adrien Broner be a superstar after tonight?

8888433(Photo credit: Tom Casino/Showtime) By Rav: With WBA welterweight champion Adrien Broner (27-0, 22 KO’s) facing hard hitting Marcos Maidana (34-3, 31 KO’s) tonight, I’m struggling to see where is this superstar status coming from for Broner and here are the facts. Amir Khan as a prospect was selling out arenas in the UK fighting pretty much bums, but tickets were sold like hot cakes and also his fights were PPV.

We have seen Ricky Hatton, David Haye and Carl Froch sell 20,000 + tickets in no time and do tremendous pay-per-view numbers too. Last February, Broner fought Gavin Rees in front of barely 4,000 fans in Atlantic City, New Jersey. So where were his superstar fans? It seems to me Broner struggles to sell tickets. He also fought Paulie Malignaggi in his hometown in Brooklyn, New York last June, with the Malignaggi pulling in the majority.

Froch-Groves II needs to happen

froch83By Rav: Having watched the Carl Froch vs. George Groves fight last night, I saw two completely different scenarios which we didn’t think would happen; Froch was pushed back by Groves and at times looked amateurish and crude and didn’t know what to do, took way too many shots and looked punch drunk at times from heavy shots from Groves.

Due to this condition, chin and punch resistance being so good, Froch was able to fight on. Groves showed excellent technical skills with movement, stunning one punch power and the ability to exploit his opponents weaknesses with his strengths.

Is Angel Garcia a clever mastermind?

By Rav: It has become clear that WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (27-0, 16 KO’s) is actually an underrated and underestimated fighter who keeps delivering as his father and trainer has said, and keeps saying but he keeps on delivering time and time again.

Is Khan looking for a Mayweather payday or does he want to become a star?

khan44By Rav: Since Amir Khan won the silver medal in Olympics at Athens, he as become a marketing dream and an over hype job as he as has progressed. Khan always had the dream of being a world champion, and that hunger showed as he was progressing until he was knocked out in the 1st round by unknown unbeaten prospect Breidis Prescott in 2008.

Khan had then moved to the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles, California under the stewardship of trainer Freddie Roach and slowly started to rebuild winning his world title and achieving his aim of being World Champion. Khan then has showed he is eager to please the fans and impress television networks at the expense of leaving himself open and taking some shots in the process, as showed in his fight of the year bout with Marcos Maidana.
