Broner’s dad: We know Ricky Burns is going to vacate rather than fight Adrien

Image: Broner’s dad: We know Ricky Burns is going to vacate rather than fight AdrienBy Scott Gilfoid: Adrien Broner’s dad thinks that WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns (35-2, 10 KO’s) will choose to vacate his title rather than face WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner (25-0, 21 KO’s) and get beat. Broner’s dad thinks Burns ran from Broner last year when Broner was on the verge of fighting Burns for his WBO super featherweight title.

Burns vacated the strap and then moved up in weight to the lightweight division, and picked up the WBO lightweight strap outside of the ring.

Broner’s dad said to thaboxingvoice.com “Now we’re coming for him [Burns] at 135. We know he’s going to give up the belt and not fight us, so we’re prepared for that.”

Boxing’s Problem with “The Problem”: Analyzing Adrien Broner’s accomplishments and what he should do next

Image: Boxing's Problem with "The Problem": Analyzing Adrien Broner's accomplishments and what he should do nextBy James Harrison: Adrien Broner’s entertaining style and recent K.O. victories have put him at the top of boxing’s radar. He is quickly being compared to pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr., given some glaring similarities, but how much substance is there in these comparisons.

Broner recently captured the WBC lightweight title by “moving up” to a different division, but according to boxrec.com he’d already won against guys at the 140 lb. mark in 2009. He even weighed in at 140 during this time.

Adrien Broner needs to move up to 140 or 147 now rather than later

Image: Adrien Broner needs to move up to 140 or 147 now rather than laterBy Scott Gilfoid: WBC lightweight champion (25-0, 21 KO’s) needs to make his visit at 135 a short one after picking up the World Boxing Council lightweight title off of champion Antonio DeMarco recently.

Broner moved up from super featherweight and did a commendable job by beating the best fighter in the division in DeMarco and making it look oh so easy. It was a pleasure to see Broner work in that fight. However, Broner has done his thing now at 135 and there’s no reason at all for him to stay at this weight class and use his career in the process.

Broner vs. Malignaggi: One possibility, says Schaefer

Image: Broner vs. Malignaggi: One possibility, says SchaeferBy Allan Fox: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer really needs an opponent for WBA World welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi after all the big plans they had in store for him in facing Ricky Hatton went up in smoke last Saturday night with Hatton’s loss to Senchenko.

Malignaggi wants that one big name for him to fight so he can get a nice payday, but Schaefer unfortunately doesn’t have a lot of choices to put in with Malignaggi. Schaefer says he could look to the lightweight division to have his young star WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner move up two divisions to face Malignaggi.

Schaefer: Danny Garcia, Broner & Khan a possibility for Malignaggi’s next fight

Image: Schaefer: Danny Garcia, Broner & Khan a possibility for Malignaggi's next fightBy William Mackay: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer is interested in possibly having WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner and/or WBC/WBA light welterweight champion Danny Garcia step up in weight to face Golden Boy fighter WBA World welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi in what would be a Golden Boy in house fight.

Schaefer missed out on the big money opponent Ricky Hatton who he was hoping to match against Malignaggi. Hatton was stopped by Vyacheslav Senchenko in the 9th round last Saturday night. That loss removed any possibility of a Hatton-Malignaggi fight, especially after Hatton then retired.

Broner interested in fighting Brandon Rios

Image: Broner interested in fighting Brandon RiosBy Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner (25-0, 21 KO’s) is intrigued with the idea of fighting former WBA World lightweight champion Brandon Rios (31-0-1, 23 KO’s) in the future if the fight can be made.

Speaking with esnewsreporting.com, a smiling Broner said “Rios and me are going to have a lot of fun.”

Before that fight can get made, Broner will have to first defeat one or two of the top lightweights so that he can establish that he’s the best fighter at that weight before moving up to light welterweight to look to get a bout with Rios.

How about Broner vs. Guerrero?

Image: How about Broner vs. Guerrero?By Paul Ward: The talk about Robert Guerrero versus Floyd Mayweather or Adrien Broner versus Mayweather is intriguing; but what about Broner versus Guerrero? Both Guerrero and Broner are good fighters but neither should be taken seriously as an opponent for Mayweather or Pacquiao at this point.

Both fighters could easily make weight and they seem to be all the hype right now, aside from the usual fighters, Mayweather, Pacquiao, Marquez, Alvarez, etc.  This fight could potentially place the winner in prime position for a true Mayweather or Pacquiao mega fight. The action would be a spectacular sight, and here is why…

Guerrero should fight Thurman or Broner to get to Mayweather

Image: Guerrero should fight Thurman or Broner to get to MayweatherBy Dan Ambrose: If WBC interim welterweight champion Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero gets a fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. off of victories over Selcuk Aydin and Andre Berto, I think it’s too easy for him to be getting such an important fight like a Mayweather fight.

Guerrero should have to actually fight and beat two rising stars in the sport like Adrien Broner (25-0, 21 KO’s) and/or Keith Thurman (19-0, 18 KO’s) to get an audience with a fighter as great as Mayweather.

While I think Berto was a good fighter at one time in his career, he’s not looked good in ages, and he hadn’t been in the ring for 14 months when Guerrero beat him last night.

Adrien Broner: A fight between me and Pacquiao can happen

Image: Adrien Broner: A fight between me and Pacquiao can happenBy Dan Ambrose: WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner (25-0, 21 KO’s) was interviewed on Saturday night before the Robert Guerrero vs. Andre Berto and when asked who he saw himself facing next or in the near future, Broner said “There’s a fight that can happen – me and [Manny] Pacquiao.”

This is an interesting fight if it can get made, because Broner mentioned he didn’t think a fight between Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. can take place. But a bout between Broner and Pacquiao could be a possibility even though Broner fights for Golden Boy Promotions and Pacquiao for Top Rank. I think Bob Arum of Top Rank would make this fight because it’s the closest thing he’s going to get to having Pacquiao fight Mayweather.

Broner says he could move up in weight for next fight

Image: Broner says he could move up in weight for next fightBy Scott Gilfoid: WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner (25-0, 21 KO’s) showed up at the Robert Guerrero vs. Andre Berto weigh-in on Friday and was asked about who he wants to fight next. Broner wouldn’t commit to any one opponent, but he did say he could possibly move up in weight up to two divisions. What was strange was that Broner didn’t even mention WBO lightweight Ricky Burns at all, making me think that he’s not going to waste a fight by facing him next.

Broner said “Who knows what Adrien Broner is going to do? Who knows if I’m going to go up in weight? Who knows if I’m going to stay at 135? Who knows if I’m going to jump two weight classes. I can do whatever. I’m very flexible – 40s, 35, 47.”
