How about Broner vs. Guerrero?

Image: How about Broner vs. Guerrero?By Paul Ward: The talk about Robert Guerrero versus Floyd Mayweather or Adrien Broner versus Mayweather is intriguing; but what about Broner versus Guerrero? Both Guerrero and Broner are good fighters but neither should be taken seriously as an opponent for Mayweather or Pacquiao at this point.

Both fighters could easily make weight and they seem to be all the hype right now, aside from the usual fighters, Mayweather, Pacquiao, Marquez, Alvarez, etc.  This fight could potentially place the winner in prime position for a true Mayweather or Pacquiao mega fight. The action would be a spectacular sight, and here is why…

Broner is super fast and has proven that he can dance and pick his shots with ease. He has great foot work, yet he can plant his feet and go toe to toe when he needs to, just as he did with Demarco. Guerrero on the other hand is not as flashy, but he can and will go toe to toe. He has a great chin and lots of heart. This match up would make a thrilling fight that would test both fighters. The most interesting element which both fighters have in common, unlike Mayweather and Pacquiao, is that they are both hungry to prove themselves; both have the drive to be the next big thing in boxing.

I predict that a fight like this could be the next Pacquiao/Marquez or even the next Gatti/Ward. This fight would not be easy for either fighter and would further expose their weaknesses and highlight their strengths. A fight of this magnitude would prepare the winner for a big fight against Mayweather or Pacquiao; not to mention setting the stage for the mega fight.

If Guerrero can keep from fighting dirty, unlike the way he fought against Andre Berto, and if the fight is officiated properly, I do believe that Broner would win this fight. I certainly do not think it would be an easy fight for Broner, which is what he needs at this point in his career. My only reason for this prediction is because Guerrero has displayed his weaknesses, whereas Broner has yet to be tested and show his vulnerabilities.
