Broner moved up from super featherweight and did a commendable job by beating the best fighter in the division in DeMarco and making it look oh so easy. It was a pleasure to see Broner work in that fight. However, Broner has done his thing now at 135 and there’s no reason at all for him to stay at this weight class and use his career in the process.

I know his promoters at Golden Boy would like to see Broner stick it out at this weight long enough to take on and obliterate the untested WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns, but I don’t see the worth in doing that. No outside of the hardcore boxing fans have ever heard of Burns in the U.S, and because of that few people will care after Broner destroys Burns.

I’m betting that fans won’t care in the least, and it’ll be like ‘So what, who cares?’ Broner’s fights against DeMarco and Vicente Escobedo likely will have drawn more fan interest than a Broner vs. Burns fight.

Broner needs to become a pay per view star as soon as possible and the only way to do that is for Broner to move up to 140 and then 147. I’d like to see Broner move up to 140 in his next fight to try and get someone like Danny Garcia, Lamont Peterson or Lucas Mattysse in the ring.

If Broner can get one of those guys and look good in beating them they he can move up to 147 and settle in at that weight. There won’t be any point in moving up in weight to 154 because there’s not a lot of talented fighters at that weight. Broner is much better off staying at 147 where he can land big fights from the best at that weight class at 140.
