By Chris Williams: Due to the controversy surrounding Monday’s purse bid for WBC World light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson’s defense against mandatory challenger Oleksandr Gvozdyk, the World Boxing Council will be ruling this Thursday whether to stage a second purse bid. Monday’s purse bid took place in Manhattan in New York with Stevenson’s promoter Yvon Michel putting in the winning bid of $2.101 million in topping Gvozdy’s promoter Top Rank’s bid of $1.675.

The 2012 Olympian Gvozdyk is now waiting to sew whether the WBC will keep their word. Stevenson fought to a 12 round draw last Saturday night against Badou Jack (22-1-3, 13 KOs), and there is a great deal of interest from fans in a rematch. Gvozdyk could be pushed to the side if Stevenson and Jack face each other again unless the WBC orders Adonis to face Gvozdyk.
