Arum throws a grenade: Shakur, Teofimo, Lomachenko can beat Tank Davis

Bob Arum states that three of his Top Rank fighters, Shakur Stevenson, Teofimo Lopez, and Vasily Lomachenko, all beat Geronta Davis, the WBA ‘regular’ lightweight champion.

For Arum to say all three of his fighters would give the boot to Tank Davis, kicking him off his royal throne, is kind of jarring.

Teofimo has been a mental basket case since his upset win over an injured and much smaller Lomachenko, and he doesn’t seem like someone who is still cogent enough to defeat the Baltimore bomber Gervonta without going to pieces.

While Arum admits that the unbeaten Tank (29-0, 27 KOs) is “the real deal,” he still believes WBC 135-lb champion Shakur (21-0, 10 KOs), WBO light welterweight champion Teofimo and Lomachenko would all defeat him.

Devin Haney & dad, Bill, won’t be overjoyed at hearing Arum throw his three fighters in the mix as potential opponents for Gervonta, as they’ve been working around the clock, talking up a fight with Tank with the media and trying to entice him to fight, albeit in a ham-handed manner.

It would be a triumph on Arum’s part if he could swoop in and put together a fight between one of his three to face Tank Davis. This writer would like to be a fly on the wall when Bill Haney gets the news of Teofimo, Loma, or Shakur getting a fight with Gervonta.

Arum views Tank as there for the picking

“All three, I think, would beat [Gervonta] Davis, I really believe that. I think Shakur beats him, I think Teofimo beats him, and I think Lomachenko beats him,” said Bob Arum to Fighthype when asked who he thinks could beat the superstar Tank Davis from his Top Rank-promoted fighters, Teofimo Lopez, Shakur Stevenson, and Vasily Lomachenko.

Of the three, Shakur likely has the best shot of beating Tank Davis; he’s got the youth, speed, and defensive skills to win. Teofimo would be useless inside the ring with the Baltimore bomber, giving up the ship as soon as he tasted the canvas for the first time.

“I think he [Tank Davis] is the real deal. That’s why we’re talking about him. He’s a hell of a performer, a terrific athlete boxer, but so are the other three guys you mentioned,” said Arum.
