Ryan Garcia Aims for Tank Rematch That’ll Never Happen

Ryan Garcia appears to be in the early stages of trying to create interest with fans for a rematch between him and Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis.

Ryan’s Got Jokes

Garcia (25-1, 20 KOs) claimed today that Tank Davis isn’t a “hard fight” for him and that he’ll defeat him worse than he did Devin Haney last Saturday night. He then adds that Tank will “never” fight him at 145 lbs, which is probably true.

Ryan also said that he thinks Haney would beat Tank, and that’s harder for fans to believe. Haney was hurt repeatedly by Ryan last Saturday night in their fight at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Haney’s punch resistance might not be the same after that fight, and he’d be in serious trouble against a guy like Tank Davis.

Tank’s Comfy in His Bubble

The PBC-managed Tank Davis (29-0, 27 KOs) isn’t about to go up a full ten pounds from 135 to 145 to face Ryan, who he made quit on one knee in seven rounds last year in April in 2023 in Las Vegas.

Gervonta is entrenched in the lightweight division, wealthy, content, and not interested in taking risks with his career. Going up in weight to face a bigger, stronger version of Ryan Garcia than the one he fought a year ago is not something Tank is interested in doing.

Tank is making good money being kept protected in safe fights against guys he and his management know he can beat.

Ryan’s Got the Spotlight Now

Despite not having fought since, Tank would still imagine himself as the A-side in a fight against Ryan, and wouldn’t be able to mentally adjust to the changing circumstances of their careers.

The reality is that Ryan has surpassed the inactive Tank Davis in popularity due to his victory over Haney and the many interviews and hard work he’s put in on social media. In comparison, Tank has been lying slow, doing occasional posts but very few interviews.

The Rematch We’ll Never See

“Gervonta wasn’t a hard fight, I was just weak. That’s not a hard fight for me, I will beat Gervonta worse than I beat Haney. He will never fight me at 145 lbs so it doesn’t really matter,” said Ryan Garcia to PatrickBetDavid.

“Haney beats Tank. Tank will try to hurt him, but Tank won’t get to Haney. Definitely, Haney will beat Tank.”
