Frank Martin Confirms Gervonta Davis Fight, Promises “The Unexpected”

Frank Martin, #2 WBA, confirmed that he’ll fight the ‘Face of Boxing’ Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis next. Martin (18-0, 12 KOs) says the date and location of the fight are still being finalized. It’s rumored to take place in Houston, Texas, on June 22nd on Amazon Prime Video PPV.

The 29-year-old Martin, nicknamed ‘The Ghost,’ is coming off a narrow 12-round unanimous decision last July against Artem Harutyunyan. That was a close call for the Detroit, Michigan native Martin, and he can’t afford to fight that way against Tank Davis if he hopes to dethrone him.

Martin says there won’t be a rehydration clause or catchweight involved in his fight against Tank Davis, like his teammate, Ryan Garcia, had to endure last year.

Tank Davis’ management did a number on Ryan, making him agree to a dehydration clause and a catchweight handicap along with a smaller purse split for him to make the fight happen.

They made it so that Ryan had virtually no chance of winning, and they still had the gall to celebrate their tainted win afterward as if they had done it fairly.

Matchup Still Pending

“It’s not an official confirmation yet. We’re still trying to wait on the venue and the exact date, but that’s not an official thing yet,” said Frank Martin to the Fight Hub TV YouTube channel about his fight against Gervonta Davis, which is rumored to be taking place on June 22nd.

Martin is going to need a good chin for him to take the big shots from Tank Davis on June 22nd because he’s going to be getting hit hard in this fight. Tank is vulnerable, as we saw in his fight against Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz, so you can’t rule out an upset win for Martin if he can handle his power.

“A lot of people are going to see the unexpected in that fight,” said Martin about his fight with Tank Davis. “Everyone knows who Tank is. He’s a star. A lot of people don’t know who I am in the boxing world. It’s one of my opportunities to go wake the world up.

Martin Analyzes Ryan Garcia’s Loss

“You have to understand that Ryan had a rehydration clause on him. So, he was only able to rehydrate a certain amount of weight, I understand,” said Martin about his gymmate, Ryan Garcia, losing to Tank Davis last year.

Martin believes the weight stipulations that Ryan dealt played a part in his defeat because he wasn’t able to rehydrate fully. Still, I think it wouldn’t have mattered if Ryan didn’t have any weight stipulations. He wasn’t going to beat Tank that night.

“He wasn’t his 100% full self. Not being 100% yourself in a big fight, that puts you at a disadvantage. I don’t believe that was a 100% Ryan in there with him. Yeah, for sure,” said Martin about him not having a rehydration clause for his fight in June against Gervonta.
