Gervonta Davis out of jail, ready to resume career

By Sam Volz: A bearded, atrophied & long-haired Gervonta ‘Tank’  Davis is finally out of jail, having served his sentence for his alleged hit & run, and is free to resume his professional career. The ‘Face of Boxing’ returneth.

It looks like Gervonta has lost weight during his stay and appears well-rested & ready to get back to work.

Looking nothing like the guy he’d been before serving his brief stay in the joint, Tank can now return him, perhaps to his newly purchased beautiful multi-million penthouse apartment.

Social media fans say that Gervonta now resembles Shawn Porter with the blowout fro and beard, but not as well dressed with the loud clothes the retired former welterweight champion wears. It’s unclear if this is a purposeful fashion statement on Tank Davis’ part to get the Porter look or, ‘I don’t care what I look like.’ Perhaps more of the latter.

Gervonta is going to need to take it easy with the driving and make sure he stays out of jail because he doesn’t need to be thrown back into the clink after another car cash.

That would get in the way of him continuing to make good green by fighting guys like Ryan Garcia, Rolly Romero & Hector Gonzalez.

The 28-year-old secondary WBA lightweight champion Tank Davis (29-0, 27 KOs) had been in jail since last month after violating the terms of his home detention.

It’s going to be interesting to see how long it takes before Gervonta resumes his career and who he ends up fighting next. Given that he’s been behind bars for over a month, it’s likely that he’ll take another non-serious opponent like the last guy he fought.

Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz is the fighter that has been mentioned the most as Tank Davis’ next opponent after his jail stay. He’s obviously not going to fight Shakur Stevenson, Devin Haney, Frank Martin, Teofimo Lopez, or Vasily Lomchenko.

Excluding all those guys leaves ‘Pitbull’ Cruz’ for a nice rematch on Showtime PPV. However, if Gervonta wants to earn the respect of the boxing world and break from the pattern of facing exclusively B-level opposition, he’ll fight Shakur Stevenson or Devin Haney next.

Tank must get back in the ring as soon as possible because, as the saying goes, ‘idle hands are the devil’s workshop,‘ if he’s bored, there’s more chance of him getting into trouble than if he’s back at work, training, and fighting.
