Ryan Garcia Still Can’t Beat ‘Tank’ Davis, Says Promoter Leonard Ellerbe

Promoter Leonard Ellerbe insists that Ryan Garcia still can’t beat Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis despite his claims that the results would be different in a second fight at 145.

Ellerbe says Tank Davis’ IQ is on another level than Ryan’s, and he just needs to take his loss from last year and move on.

Tank’s Silence Speaks Volumes?

Garcia (25-1, 20 KOs) blames his seventh-round knockout loss to Gervonta (29-0, 27 KOs) on the strength-draining weight stipulations that he was forced to agree to for him to get the fight. Instead of Tank Davis fighting Ryan at 140, he had to deal with these two weight stipulations:

– 10-lb rehydration limit
– 136-lb catchweight

Those two things combined left Ryan an emaciated, weakened fighter, which Tank Davis took advantage of to stop in the seventh round.

Ryan looked like an entirely different fighter last Saturday after weighing in at 143 lb for his fight against WBC light welterweight champion Devin Haney on April 20th. He dominated Haney, knocking him down three times en route to winning a one-sided 12-round majority decision victory.

After the fight, Ryan challenged Tank Davis to fight him at 145 lbs, saying that he’d beat the Baltimore native at that weight. Interestingly, Tank has failed to bite, which suggests to some boxing fans that he realizes that he can’t beat Ryan when he’s at full strength, and would rather take safe, lesser-paying fights to avoid a loss.

Ellerbe’s Rebuttal

“Ryan Garcia can’t beat Tank Davis and he knows that,” said promoter Leonard Ellerbe to the Fight Hub TV YouTube channel, insisting that Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis is too good for Ryan Garcia.

“He shared the ring with him. He knows that. All bull s***,” said Ellerbe, reacting to Ryan saying he can beat Tank Davis at 145. “It sounds good. Tank’s IQ is off the charts. Tank did exactly what he said he was going to do. He took the L.

“Now, if for some unforeseen reason if the results had been different, do you think he would have been talking about that? It’s what we call excuses. Instead of just taking the L and keeping it moving.

“He was able to fight Tank, take the L, and regain his confidence and he came off a very big win by beating Haney,” said Ellerbe, talking about Ryan Garcia’s victory over Devin Haney last Saturday night.
