Sebastian Fundora willing to fight Errol Spence Jr at 147

By Dan Ambrose: Sebastian ‘The Towering Inferno’ Fundora says he’s willing to drop down to 147 to face IBF/WBA/WBC welterweight champion Errol ‘The Truth’ Spence Jr. if his undisputed clash against WBO belt-holder Terence Crawford falls through and can’t happen.

While it’s hard to believe the rail-thin 6’6″ Fundora (19-0-1, 13 KOs) could make 147 to potentially face the unbeaten Spence (28-0, 22 KOs), the Florida native insists that he can get down to that weight.

If boxing fans doubt that Fundora could give Spence problems, they only need to watch Sebastian’s recent ninth-round stoppage victory over the highly ranked #5 WBC contender Erickson ‘The Hammer’ Lubin on April 9th to know that he’s got the offensive firepower to pose a threat to Spence.

Fundora’s fight against Lubin was a ‘fight of the year’ match-up that saw both fighters hit the deck.

Ultimately, the damage that Fundora did to Lubin’s face with his powerful uppercuts led to the contest being halted in the ninth round. Lubin’s face was entirely rearranged by the hard shots that Fundora had hit him with.

I can make 147, no problem,” said Sebastian Fundora. “If Errol Spence is looking for a real fight with a towering chance to be dethroned, I’ll be there ready to go! Any welterweight world champion can get burned by the Towering Inferno. Just ask.”

If Spence needs an opponent that will bring huge excitement, Fundora would be an excellent option for him. You can argue that Fundora would be a far more appealing opponent for Spence compared to the Texas native’s last six opponents:

Yordenis Ugas
Danny Garcia
Shawn Porter
Mikey Garcia
Carlos Ocampo
Lamont Peterson

Most of those fights weren’t even fair ones because these fighters had no business sharing the ring with a talented fighter like Spence.

For example, little Mikey Garcia looked totally out of place inside the ring with Spence, and the fight was about as competitive as watching a first-year pro being matched against a world champion.

The same could be said about Spence’s mismatches against Ocampo, Peterson, and Garcia.

Spence is hoping to fight Crawford next for the undisputed welterweight championship. Still, it remains to be seen whether that match will get made due to the difficulty involving trying to negotiate the contest.

Errol plans to move up to 154 after his fight with Crawford, putting him in the same division as Fundora. With Spence’s popularity, he’ll likely be given the red carpet treatment by the four sanctioning bodies for a quick world title shot against undisputed champion Jermell Charlo.

Fundora would like a world title shot against four-belt champion Jermell, but that’s not likely to happen. Charlo is expected to move up to 160 soon after possibly defending against his WBO mandatory Tim Tszyu.
