Teofimo Lopez reacts to Mayweather fighting Logan Paul
By Allan Fox: Teofimo Lopez is disgusted with the idea of Floyd Mayweather Jr choosing to fight Youtuber celebrity Logan Paul (0-1) in a professional boxing match. IBF lightweight champion Teofimo (15-0, 12 KOs) is advising Mayweather (50-0, 27 KOs) not to take that fight with the 25-year-old Paul.
Teofimo says he won’t be able to look at Mayweather the same way anymore if he fights against Logan.
It’s one thing for Mayweather to cherry-pick UFC fighters like Conor McGregor to make money, but it’s a different story to select a Youtuber with no boxing experience to fight.
Mayweather still hasn’t confirmed that he’s coming back to fight Logan Paul, but the rumors are that he’s already signed the contract. Paul said to TMZ, “I can’t talk about that, s***.” You read that comment to mean; he’s been told to keep quiet about the Mayweather fight.
Mayweather was called out
Logan called out Mayweather last November after losing a six-round split decision to fellow Youtuber KSI at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. It’s unclear whether this Tweet is what has gotten the 43-year-old Mayweather interested in fighting Logan.
There has to be more to it than this. But the amount of interest in the Paul vs. KSI fight on social media didn’t escape Mayweather’s attention. That fight received more fan interest than the main event between Devin Haney and Alfredo Santiago.
First of all, Teofimo wants to know why the unbeaten superstar Mayweather would want to fight someone like Paul? The reason why Mayweather would be coming back to fight someone like Logan Paul is likely A). The money B). Receiving attention from fans.

It’s a way for Mayweather to make a lot of money without endangering his health and putting his unbeaten record at risk. Mayweather has been protective over his unbeaten record, and that’s one of the reasons why he’s not interested in fighting active boxers.
If Mayweather came back now, he’d probably lose if he fights anyone with talents like Errol Spence Jr, Terence Crawford, Manny Pacquiao, or Keith Thurman.
Teofimo tells Mayweather: Don’t do it
“‘What do you think of Mayweather fighting that Youtuber Logan Paul?’ Why? I think honestly, why?” said Teofimo Lopez in reacting to the news of Mayweather fighting Youtube celebrity Logan Paul. “I don’t know why? Come on, Floyd, you’re better than that.
Don’t be doing that to yourself. Your legacy and everything that you worked hard for. If you do that, I can’t even look at you the same. That’s how I feel,” Lopez said in making it clear he doesn’t want to see Mayweather fighting Logan.
It looks incredibly bad for Mayweather to be taking on a celebrity guy from Youtube, who has no background in boxing. Surely, Mayweather could at least pick a former boxer even if Mayweather picked an old retired fighter like Ricky Hatton or Kostyu Tszyu; that worlds better than watching him fight Logan Paul.
Hatton, Tszyu, and even 47-year-old Felix Trinidad would destroy Logan Paul if they came out of retirement to fight him. It’s too easy. Logan looked lost inside the ring against KSI last November, and he was exhausted after one round.
Mayweather would have to carry Logan into the later rounds the way he did against UFC fighter Conor McGregor if he doesn’t want to be showered with bottles and trash by the fans at ringside if he knocks him too quickly.
The fans will feel likely they were tricked, and you can bet they’ll be furious. That’s why it’s not a good idea for Mayweather to fight Logan Paul or anyone like that.
Is this just the beginning for Mayweather?
Unfortunately, this could be the beginning of Mayweather picking out different celebrities and athletes from other sports to fight, and keep making money as he ages. Boxing great Jack Johnson fought exhibition matches after he retired until he was 67.
Will Mayweather continue to hustle fights into his old age to capitalize on his fame? It won’t be surprising if that’s what happens. Of course, once Mayweather starts getting diminishing returns with the money he’s making from his exhibition matches, he’ll likely give it up. It won’t be worth it once the fans stop paying to see these farces.
Mayweather will be giving away a lot of size in taking on the cruiserweight Logan. Hopefully, Logan doesn’t have to fight Mayweather at a catch-weight or something. Logan is already completely overmatched in fighting a former multi-division world champion like Mayweather.
Even with Mayweather’s resume being padded with a lot of weak opposition, he’s still a professional fighter and years of experience. All Logan has is one fight in the pro ranks under his belt, and he lost that one to KSI. Logan didn’t have an amateur career. He’s just some Youtube personality with a lot of followers.
The last time Mayweather fought was in 2018 when he defeated a small Japanese kickboxer in a first-round knockout. Mayweather reportedly made $9 million for that fight. In Mayweather’s last professional fight, he beat MMA fighter Conor McGregor in 2017.
