brook55666By Scott Gilfoid: IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (33-0, 22 KOs) says he should be back in the ring by next February in 2015, and he wants to face either Amir Khan or Floyd Mayweather Jr. He’d like to fight Khan with the winner to take on Mayweather in a unification bout. Brook is still recovering from a stab wound in his leg.

Brook, 28, is coming off of a surprise upset win over IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter from last August. Using the punch and grab technique, Brook was able to clinch his way to a controversial 12 round victory.

While some boxing fans thought Brook did enough to win, others thought he lost or deserved a draw at best. It wasn’t a fight that you can call it a clear win due to all the clinching that Brook did. He was lucky wasn’t disqualified for all the holding because it was very, very ugly to watch, and definitely beyond the norm.

“I am looking to be ready to fight again in February of next year,” Brook said to the BBC.com.”People want to see Mayweather tested and I am unbeaten. I think that fight needs to happen,” Brook said. “I think me and Khan should fight for the right to take on Mayweather. That is the obvious thing to me.”

Brook is dreaming if he thinks Mayweather will drop his ideas of fighting on Cinco de Mayo in order to fight him in February. That’s just not going to happen. There’s no upside in Mayweather abandoning his Cinco de Mayo fight date to take on fighter that American casual boxing fans have no clue who Brook is.

If Brook is going to be fighting in February then he’s obviously going to need to fight one of the top contenders in the division, preferably someone good enough to interest U.S boxing fans like Keith Thurman. Khan definitely won’t be fighting Brook in February, because there’s an outside chance that Khan could get the Mayweather fight in May.

Khan has a fight in December, and there’s not going to be enough time for him to get ready to fight Brook two months later in February. Besides that, Khan likely won’t be taking any chances by facing anyone that has a remote chance of whipping him before he’s gotten the Mayweather payday fight.
