Kell Brook Hints at Comeback, Eyes Eubank Jr. Clash

Former IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook says he’s ready to come out of retirement to face middleweight Chris Eubank Jr. in a battle.

The 37-year-old Brook (40-3, 28 KOs) has been retired for the last two years since his impressive sixth-round TKO victory over Amir Khan in February 2022 in Manchester.

Brook has the punching power, boxing skills, and pedigree to defeat Eubank Jr. (33-3, 24 KOs), who has never risen above the domestic level.

The Itch Returns

Kell was genuinely world-class, and even now, he’d have an excellent chance of destroying Eubank Jr. as a healthy, non-weight-drained Liam Smith did in January 2023.

In that fight, Brook showed that his punching power was just as good as ever despite coming off a two-year layoff. He destroyed Khan and made it look easy.

Although some people believe Brook should stay retired, thinking he could suffer another eye injury. In Kell’s loss to former middleweight champion Gennadiy Golovkin in 2016, he suffered an orbital fracture of his left eye.

“Of course, it does. This is what we were doing as a kid. We’re warriors from the Roman days,” said Kell Brook to talkSPORT Boxing when asked if being ringside makes him want to fight again. “Of course, the atmosphere brings it all back again. My knuckles start getting itchy.

Retirement On Hold

“It’s getting talked about. Listen, it can happen. I can come out,” said Brook about him being ready to come out of retirement. “I can take my slippers and pipe to one side.”

Brook shouldn’t have retired after his victory over Khan in 2022 because he looked excellent. He wouldn’t have had to go after a world title to have a lot of success and continue to add to his huge fortune.

If Brook succeeds in his potential fight with Eubank Jr., there are many excellent options for him to fight. These would be some of them:

  • Billy Joe Saunders
  • Conor Benn
  • Devin Haney
  • Josh Taylor
  • Jack Catterall
  • Ryan Garcia

“Get my trainers back out. Dust my gloves off, get that adrenalin going again, and get the fans,” said Brook. “For me, I want to speak with the fans. They’ve not had a night like when me, and [Amir] Khan were in Manchester [in February 2022].”

Fans Craving The Fire

“Listen, it can happen again, and I’m excited. I can tell everyone will want to see it again. Yeah, his name is there. He’s the one that’s being talked about the most,” said Brook when asked if Chris Eubank Jr. is the one that he would be coming out of retirement for.

Brook vs. Eubank Jr. would be an excellent fight to entertain the fans, and to give Kell a chance to show the difference between true world-class ability and a fighter who many feel is just living off his famous daddy’s name.

“It’s a fight. I don’t like the guy. It’s a fight where the fans are going to get a treat from start to finish. From the build-up to the fight, and it’s a fight that I can get out of bed for. Get out of those silk sheets and hit that road,” Brook continued about his interest in fighting Eubank Jr.

“I’m training. It’s good to train. Listen, as soon as the green light goes on, and we can make it happen, and I’ll be ready to train and entertain again like I do,” said Brook.
