cloud4By Jim Dower: WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson (22-1, 9 KO’s) made Tavoris Cloud (24-2, 19 KO’s) look like a sparring partner tonight in getting a cut stoppage after the 7th round at the Bell Centre, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The fight was stopped just moments after the 7th round ended.

Cloud walked to his corner and instead of sitting down, he stood up and had his eye inspected. The fight then stopped. Cloud was cut over his right eye, and it was too one-sided of a fight for the bout to be continued.

Stevenson landed a lot of big shots in the fight that would have stopped many fighters. To his credit, Cloud took the power shots and was able to stay upright for 7 rounds without getting seriously hurt. However, Cloud’s skin around his eyes couldn’t hold up to the big power shots that Stevenson was landing, and it was no surprise that the fight eventually had to be stopped.

Cloud tried to land punches, but he didn’t seem to know how to get close enough to land his punches without walking into one of Stevenson’s big left hands. When Cloud would try and get close, Stevenson would tag him with a big shot or pull away quickly to keep him from landing.

Former WBC light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal (28-2, 17 KO’s) defeated 39-year-old George Blades (23-5-2, 16 KO’s) by a 5th round TKO in a tune-up fight to get Pascal ready for his January 18th battle against Lucian Bute. Pascal dropped Blades 3 times in the fight before it was finally halted at 2:54 by referee Marlon Wright.

Pascal was much too fast for Blades, and he was able to hit him with pretty much everything he wanted to in this fight.
