Nathan Cleverly Reveals Shocking Future Plans

cleverly777By Ciaran McKinney: The dethroned light-heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly has given a revealing interview as he sat in the SkySports studios acting as a pundit for the card headlined by the Adonis Stevenson and Tavoris Cloud. It was the first time the public has really been able to get an in depth look at the crestfallen Welshman. In between bouts, his fellow pundits took their opportunity to pick his mind, and Cleverly was not shy. He spoke about how, in his short and unproven time as World Champion, he had the tendency to take his foot off the gas.

This is not a surprise given the low caliber opponents served up to him by his promoter. He spoke freely about his emotions after his crushing defeat against Sergei Kovalev, stating that he considered retirement in the aftermath of the bout and honestly admitting that his game-plan to absorb the Russians power shots and break his heart failed miserably.

He talked a great game in regards to taking his time about a comeback and waiting until he was not only physically, but mentally ready. The math graduate spoke of taking a long break and finding his level, working towards a goal of once again being a World Champion. It was then the the interview took a more confusing turn, the man who had just a matter of months ago, been decimated by a light heavyweight revealed his master plan; Moving up to Cruiser-weight.

The other analysts in the studio seemed to be in genuine disbelief at what seemed to be complete delusions of grandeur on the part of Cleverly. His main argument of  moving up seemed to be his thought that his body had filled out and he was a natural Cruiser-weight. Let me state this, after a heavy defeat, such as the one Cleverly himself suffered, fighters will look for answers and solutions, the majority of the time, these will be sought out in peculiar and irrelevant thought processes. The casual fan could tell you that this would be the worst possible move for ‘Clev’. Hopefully, Nathan Cleverly can get his head right and overcome his disastrous defeat, but one things for sure. That wont happen at cruiserweight level and the Welsh-mans’  trainer and advisers will see too that, along with, this writer hopes, his own common sense.
