Pacquiao may not have the bargaining power at this point in time

Image: Pacquiao may not have the bargaining power at this point in timeBy Babatis Banda: While I do appreciate that somebody has to budge for the fight to get made, I am very skeptical with people suggesting that this is enough from Manny Pacquiao. I am also cognizant of the fact that Pacquiao was simply responding to a question and that this may not have been officially communicated to the Floyd Mayweather camp. You have to realize that at this point in time, Pacquiao’ s position is a lot weaker than it was a few years back.

Pacquiao has the right to mention figures, but ultimately these have to be agreed to by the Mayweather team, they are in the driving seat. It is only logical that Pacquiao would accept a lesser cut, I am sure that he is fully aware that at this moment in time, Floyd would never give him a 50/50 cut.

What Pacquiao has done is only logically correct, and there would be no other better way to do it than first to accept a lesser cut. The testing issue is non-negotiable. Floyd was willing to negotiate initially for something closer to Olympic type Random Blood Testing, but with a cut-off date. This is certainly in the past.

My hope is that Pacquiao is not saying something that will be interpreted by his team to mean something else. We are also alive to the fact that Pacquiao has made a similar statement before. This was on national television in the Philippines if I am not mistaken, but he really never meant what he said. I honestly hope that this time, this is not a cheap public relations move like before.

For Mayweather, we wait to hear what he has to say for the offer and we are hoping this satisfies him so that all this talk is put to rest. Meanwhile, we can only keep our fingers crossed and hope that Pacquiao goes past his other nightmare this coming December to finally position himself for the fight we all are waiting for. For a fact, if Pacquiao was really doing well without Mayweather, I doubt he would budge to Mayweather, but for now, he is in the passenger seat.
