By Marcus Stewart: Former unified super middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe believes that he would’ve beaten the current unified super middleweight champion Andre Ward.

Calzaghe said to CJG Talk Boxing “I’d beat him. I believe he’s a good fighter but I’d beat him. I’d be too busy, have too many angles and I’d be too strong.” In my eyes it’s a no brainer. Joe Calzaghe would absolutely destroy the overrated American Andre Ward. Joe Calzaghe fought everyone and instead of grabbing and holding them he went toe to toe with them but also boxed methodically like a true champion. Against Kessler was willing to trade with him unlike Ward who kept punching and clinching Kessler all night. Calzaghe has always been entertaining to watch in his fights, whilst Andre ward has been boring, so therefore it’d be a no brainer as to who boxing fans would want to see win.

Despite this however Ward would give him problems but I believe that Calzaghe would overcome them quickly and knock him out comfortably, because he’s quicker stronger and generally more technical than Ward.

It’s a fight that many dream about because many people see it as a 50/50 bout. I don’t. I can see Joe Calzaghe battering him for a good few rounds and then eventually taking him out. Ward hasn’t got the power to cause Calzaghe problems however Calzaghe definitely has the power to take Ward out completely. Joe Calzaghe vs. Andre Ward. It’s a lot more one sided than people think.
