Image: Danny Garcia will likely finish off Erik Morales on October 20thBy Dan Ambrose: It’s kind of going to be sad to see the October 20th fight between WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (24-0, 15 KO’s) and former four division world champion Erik Morales (52-8, 36 KO’s) at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Morales, who has lost two out of his last three fights, likely won’t win and it’s hard to say where Morales can go from here should he lose to Garcia.

It might not be enough that he fights guys hard enough to lose. Morales has so much pride that I can’t see him staying on after another loss to Garcia, and that’s kind of sad. But it’s bound to happen sooner or later, and you can make a strong argument that Morales would have reached this stage last year when he was scheduled to fight Lucas Matthysse but instead ended up facing inexperienced 22-year-old fringe contender Pablo Cesar Cano instead. Had Morales fought Matthysse he almost surely would have lost that fight. That would be three losses in a row for Morales because he was beaten by Garcia in March of this year. Losing two out of his last three fights is one thing, but losing his last three would likely be the nail in the coffin of Morales’ once great career.

Like in the last fight, Garcia will have all the advantages in the Morales rematch aside from experience. Garcia is taller, stronger, faster, younger and the better mover. All Morales has going for him is experience and that likely won’t be enough to get him past the things that Garcia has going for him.

Morales will need to take the fight to Garcia if he wants to win this fight. He can’t just stay on the outside throwing jabs all night long like he did in their fight last March and think he’s going to win a decision. It’s not going to happen because Garcia is going to be drilling him with big shots all night long and winning rounds.
