Arum waiting for Pacquiao to make his decision about who he’ll fight next

There’s an outside chance that Pacquiao may not fight at all in order to try and rest for a hoped for mega fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. in early 2013.

That might be the wisest decision because there’s just too much risk involved for Pacquiao to fight one of the guys that Arum has picked out for him to choose from.

Arum said to the Manila Bulletin “I am also waiting for him [Pacquiao] to make a decision. He is not obligated to fight. If Manny doesn’t to fight this year, all he has to do is tell us.”

Am I sensing some frustration setting in with Arum? It sure seems like it. If Pacquiao skips a fight in November or December, Pacquiao will miss a payday and so will Arum. But it might be better off for Pacquiao to skip this fight than taking it and then getting beaten or winning another one of his controversial decisions that he’s been getting from time to time and that turning off boxing fans towards a Mayweather fight. Pacquiao already lost his last fight against Tim Bradley last June, and fought well enough to deserve to lose his fight before that against Juan Manuel Marquez.

If Pacquiao decide to fight it’s going to likely be against either Juan Manuel Marquez or Miguel Cotto, since they bring in more money in terms of pay per view dollars than Bradley will.

Arum needs to realize that Pacquiao is getting old and he may not be able to beat guys like Cotto and Marquez anymore. I never considered Pacquiao’s two wins over Marquez as legitimate wins, but he may not even be able to fight well enough to give the benefit of the doubt against him.
