Yahoo sports news is reporting that Khan could take the Garcia fight next to try and avenge his huge 4th round TKO loss last weekend in Las Vegas.

The defeat derailed Khan’s hoped for mega fight against unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr., and likely pushed that fight back a year or possibly more depending on how quickly Khan can come back from his loss.

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer told the mirror.co.uk “There is no rematch clause, but in the 140-pound division, the biggest fight out there is the rematch. We’ll see if they want to pursue a rematch, or maybe a fight in between. We have to see if they want to stay at 140 or move up to 147.”

Schaefer probably wants to see his fighter Khan back to where he was before the Garcia loss. Khan was poised to capture two of the light welterweight titles at the time, and he would have been considered the best fighter in the light welterweight division had he won that fight.

Schaefer was planning on moving Khan up to 147 after that for Khan to get a big money bout against Mayweather and some of the other big stars at 147. It’s not too late for Khan to get these things, but he’s going to have to take a risky rematch against Garcia as soon as possible for him to gain back his confidence and the respect from fans.

Khan has to face Garcia and show the boxing world that his loss to him was the result of a lucky shot on Garcia’s part where he hurt Khan to where he couldn’t come back in the fight. If Khan can dominate Garcia in a rematch in December, perhaps Golden Boy can still make the Mayweather fight in early 2013. It might not be as big a fight as it would have been, but if Khan does a job on Garcia in the rematch it’ll be close enough to where it won’t matter.
