Image: Adrien Broner says he'll come up to 140 lbs to get a big fightBy Scott Gilfoid: With the prospects of getting a big fight at lightweight pretty much nil, former WBO super featherweight champion Adrien Broner (24-0, 20 KO’s) revealed in video today at fighthype.com that he’ll come up to 140 if he has to for his next fight to get a big fight against one of the top guys at that weight.

Broner, 23, is back in gym working out to stay in condition after blowing through #1 WBO Vincente Escobedo in a 5th round stoppage on July 21st. It wasn’t much of a fight after all the talking had been done between the two of them.

Broner expects to be back in the ring in October, but there really isn’t much to pick from at lightweight. The top guys in the division are as follows: Ricky Burns, Antonio DeMarco, Miguel Vazquez, Jorge Linares and Kevin Mitchell. None of those are big names, and Mitchell and Linares have both been already exposed in that past. There’s not much to be got from fighting either of those guys, and trying to get Burns or DeMarco in the ring may be like pulling teeth for Broner.

Broner is much better off trying to get someone from the light welterweight division to fight him, such as Amir Khan, Lucas Matthysse, Zab Judah, Lamont Peterson or Mike Alvarado. One of those guyus would be perfect for Broner, in particular Khan. Thus far, Khan doesn’t have an opponent picked out for his next fight in December, and it would be great if he and Broner could step in the ring and fight. I would favor Broner by a knockout.
