Image: Khan says he feels stronger now that he's changed his dietBy William Mackay: Former IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan swears by his new organic diet that it’s improved him as a fighter by making him stronger if that’s possible from a diet.

Khan told thesun.co.uk “Breakfast is organic oatmeal with organic fruit salad. Tea, fish and steamed vegetables — and sometimes I think I’m lucky to get the fish! I feel so much better when I come to train. I also feel stronger. We’re working on a lot of power, so when I hit an opponent I want to feel that power. I can tell the difference already. When I hit my trainer Freddie [Roach] on the pads he says he can feel it too. That’s after only two months.”

I hate to break this to Khan but what he’s probably feeling is something that’s not there. In other words, he wants to be stronger and thereby is seeing what’s not there. I just don’t buy a fighter getting stronger from a diet, especially one that involves eating a lot of organic stuff. If anything, I can see Khan getting weaker rather than stronger.

If you want to become stronger, you eat a lot of meat, chicken and eggs and load up on the carbs. But eating a bunch of organic matter is probably going to take power away from you rather than giving you power.

I guess Roach is probably blowing smoke up Khan’s backside by telling him he’s getting stronger so that he’ll work harder and believe in himself more as he prepares for his upcoming fight against WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia. But I don’t think for a second that Khan is getting stronger. But whatever floats his boat. If he wants to believe that because he’s eating fruit salad, drinking team and eating steamed veggies that it’s making him stronger so be it.
