Image: Andre Ward: Mayweather going to jail is no reason for fans to gloat about itBy Chris Williams: WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward was good enough to stand up for Floyd Mayweather Jr. earlier today by speaking out about the multitude of fans that seemingly enjoying seeing Mayweather go to jail to start serving out his 87-day jail sentence at the Clark County Detention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Ward said on his twitter “I know a lot of people are happy Floyd is going to jail today, but guilty or not this is nothing to be happy or parade about. Some will attempt to twist what I said about Floyd, but I don’t condone wrong of any kind. What is wrong is gloating about over a man’s failure.”

I couldn’t have said it better myself, Andre. This was like the Gettysburg address I tell you. All we needed was Ward standing on a podium in front of the Mayweather haters, teaching them not to hate. Somehow I don’t think it would sink into their skulls because the hate is too far ingrained to reach some of them. ‘Judge not lest you be judged’

I think it’s so wrong that Mayweather is having to go to jail for his family problems. Nevada could save a lot of money if they just fined Mayweather or had him take a special class rather than putting him behind bars for 87 days. That’s a waste. It’s not using his talents. They should have just let him work it off with a few charity drives or something like that instead of jailing the guy.

But it’s sad to see all the hate in some of the people who are gleeful about Mayweather going to jail. You’d think that he did something to these people personally instead of merely dominating the sport and entertaining fans. I know some of Mayweather’s haters dislike him because he’s taken a few shots against their hero Manny Pacquiao, but that’s par for the course. That’s what boxing is all about. Fighters talk bad about other fighters and then they meet up in the ring to settle things.

It’s not Mayweather’s fault that Pacquiao wouldn’t agree to the money split that he offered him. I think Mayweather was more than fair by offering Pacquiao 40% of the financial pie. That’s a good deal and Pacquiao may be kicking himself for not agreeing to it should he get beaten by Bradley. You can expect that 40% to dwindle down to 30% if Pacquiao gets beat by Bradley.
