Khan: I’ll have too much for Garcia; I’m looking for a knockout

Image: Khan: I'll have too much for Garcia; I'm looking for a knockoutBy William Mackay: If former IBf/WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan gets his way, he’ll totally dominate and stop WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia in their fight on July 14th in Las Vegas, Nevada. Khan believes that his so-called experience and talent advantage will be the telling factor in the fight.

Khan told Amirkhanworld.com “I know I just have too much for him. I want to produce a knockout this fight and that’s what I’ll be aiming for…We’re not sure what belts will be on the line…I’m hoping this can be a unification fight and I can bring back the titles to Great Britain.”

I wouldn’t hold my breath if I were Khan about having his lost IBF and WBA 140 pound titles on the line, because for those titles to be on the line those sanctioning bodies will have to strip the rightful champion Lamont Peterson, and then place them vacant just for the Khan-Garcia fight. They probably won’t do this, so Khan should focus on being happy that the WBC title will be available for him. It’s better than nothing.

Khan will leave himself open to getting knocked out if he tries to trade shots with Garcia just in order to shoot for a knockout win. That’s the wrong thing for Khan to do, because he doesn’t have the chin to be looking to stop any of his opponents let a lone a big puncher like Garcia. We saw what happened to Khan when he tried to slug with Breidis Prescott.

Khan got knocked out in the 1st round. The best way for Khan to fight is for him to run around the ring to try and avoid getting hit as much as possible. That’s maybe his only chance he has in beating Garcia on July 14th. If he tries to impress, Khan could get knocked cold. I’d hate to see that happening but I wouldn’t be surprised.
