Image: Fury-Maddalone: Vinny has a chance if he can get to Tyson's fragile mandibleBy Scott Gilfoid: To the average fan, journeyman Vinny Maddalone (35-7, 26 KO’s) doesn’t have a prayer of beating undefeated Tyson Fury (18-0, 13 KO’s) on July 7th at the Hand Arena, Clevedon, Somerset, UK.

But if you’re well versed from having most of Fury’s previous fights like I have then you’ll not that the 38-year-old Maddalone has a heck of a chance here in pulling off an upset in this fight if he can get to Fury’s tender chin to try and spark him out. I’ve seen Fury get stunned by lesser fighters than Maddalone in the past, and if those guys can do it then Maddalone has a heck of a chance of getting a stoppage on July 7th.

What Maddalone has to do is go right after Fury from the opening seconds of the fight in order to test his chin. The 6’9″ Fury can’t protect his chin for anything. He’s always wide open for the best power shots that his opponents can throw simply because he can’t keep his opponents on the outside because of his lack of a jab and power. Oh, he throws jabs but they’re limp, like noodles and lacking any kind of power. Maddalone will be able to walk through those shots in order to land his own big punches.

Fury’s long arms lack power and they can’t keep an opponent on the outside. It’s too bad Fury never moved over to the United States so that he could work with one of the great trainers like Emanuel Steward, because he could have helped Fury learn how to jab, throw punches and get out of the way of shots. However, that’s not happened it’s probably not going to happen. I think we’re seeing here the finished product with Fury. He is what is and he’s probably not going to get any better at this point. Maddalone can take advantage of Fury’s inability to keep the fight on the outside by going after him in close and aiming his shots for Fury’s head where he’s most vulnerable. We’ve already seen Fury hurt on a number of occasions recently and dumped on the canvas. Maddalone has a real chance of hurting Fury as well and taking him out.
