Image: Broner: Even on my worst day I still winBy Scott Gilfoid: Adrien Broner (23-0, 19 KO’s) is ready to take his talent and WBO featherweight strap into the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, Las Vegas on May 19th and school his latest victim Gary Sykes (20-2, 5 KO’s) in front of huge crowd a big nationwide audience in the HBO televised fight. Sykes, 28, is going to be knockout victim number 20 for the 22-year-old Broner.

Broner said on his twitter “Losing is not an option. On my worst day I still win. This has got to be the realist s*** I ever wrote.”

I completely agree with Mr. Broner. On his worst day, he still spanks Sykes easily. This is one of those fights where Broner doesn’t even have to get out of 1st gear to win. Heck, he could keep it in neutral and still beat Sykes one-handed. The talent levels between the two fighters is staggering. Sykes may be six years older, but those years don’t matter because Broner is so much more talented. Sykes doesn’t have the speed, power, defense of talent to win this fight. He’s just a lamb being led to the slaughter.

Golden Boy Promotions, the promoters for Broner, could have done a lot better than this in digging up an opponent for Broner to shine against. But they likely needed a Brit to help British fans get into the undercard fights as well the main event, which will have Amir Khan trying to win back his IBF and WBA 140 pound titles against his former conqueror Lamont Peterson.

Throwing in a token Brit like Sykes will no doubt please some of the UK fans, although I still don’t understand the choice of Sykes. Of all the Brits available, why Sykes? It likely came down to the green stuff. To get 1st tier Brit like Ricky Burns or Kevin Mitchell, it would have likely cost a pretty penny and even if a huge offer was made, I can’t see either Burns or Mitchell accepting the offer.

Broner is just too damn good. Who wants to be seen getting knocked out in one or two rounds in front of the entire world? As such, Sykes is the one that was picked out and I feel sorry for him already. It’s going to be a brutal knockout unless Sykes’ corner throws in the white towel of surrender when things start going bad for him in the first minute of the 1st round. I’d have that towel at the ready in right hand and would be poised to let it fly as soon as the fight starts. No point in leaving Sykes out there longer than necessary just to take a beating.
