Image: Mormeck tells Wladimir: I'm not Mike Tyson, but it's a good public relations stuntBy Allan Fox: IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko has been comparing his opponent Jean Marc Mormeck to Mike Tyson in the past two weeks leading up to their fight on Saturday in order to drum up interest in this fight with the boxing public. However, instead of it convincing fans that the 39-year-old Mormeck has a chance, it’s making fans see Wladimir as desperate to get people to want to see his mismatch.

Mormeck seems to be tired of Wladimir comparing him to Tyson, and finally said something about it, saying to the dailymail.co.uk “I’m not Mike Tyson, though, sometimes it’s a good PR stunt. I have neither the explosiveness nor the punch.”

It’s sad that Mormeck had to speak up about this because Wladimir is being silly by making such comparisons that are off by a million miles. Wladimir might as well have compared the 39-year-old Mormeck to big George Foreman it amounts to the same as the Tyson comparison. It’s not that Mormeck doesn’t have decent power, but it’s decent but not great by any means. There are much bigger punchers in the heavyweight division than Mormeck. When Tyson was in his prime, you couldn’t say that. He was by far the biggest puncher when he was fighting well. But Mormeck is more of an average puncher and still hasn’t knocked out anyone at heavyweight in his three fights against 2nd tier opposition. That tells you right there that Mormeck isn’t Tyson-like, because if he had Tyson power he would have knocked out his last three opponents at the heavyweight level instead of scraping by with close decision wins.
