Image: Arum wants Mayweather to make a deal with himBy Chris Williams: Bob Arum is looking to put together a fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. in late May. However, Arum wants Mayweather to contact him so that he can try and make a deal to guarantee Mayweather’s purse.

Apparently, Arum doesn’t think Golden Boy Promotions can do this for Mayweather, so he wants to cut a deal with him to where he’ll guarantee Mayweather’s purse but for a small profit.

Arum told Philstar.com “It will be late in May. But the problem remains the same in that no one from Mayweather’s side would guarantee his purse. I can only guarantee Manny’s purse, but if Floyd wants to make a deal with me then I’m open to that. I can guarantee his purse but I then will have a share in his revenue. That’s why we need to hear from him.”

I don’t think Mayweather will go for that in a million years to have Arum sharing his revenue. That’ like something out of bad movie. Arum says things that sometimes aren’t true and I would be surprised if Golden Boy couldn’t guarantee Mayweather’s purse, but if they can’t, Mayweather won’t likely have any interest in letting Arum cut in his money.

Pacquiao is saying he wants the fight but he’s now asking for a 50-50 cut of the revenue. This comes after Pacquiao had previously said he’d take less than a 50-50 deal. Not sure what made him change his mind but I don’t think he deserves it. Just based on that very questionable decision over Juan Manuel Marquez in his last fight, I don’t think Pacquiao is on the same level as Mayweather. Marquez was easily beaten by Mayweather two years before that.

Arum still wants a temporary 45,000 seat outdoor arena built for the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight. It looks as if he now believes it can be created by late May instead of in June, which is some of the baloney that’s been shopped around. The MGM Grand, the place that Mayweather has already booked for May 5th, holds slightly less than 17,000 fans. Arum wants to get as much as they can out of the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight, and you can’t blame him for that.

Pacquiao and Mayweather figure to make $50 million each off of this fight, which a mind boggling number. That’s a lot of cash and it could wind up even more than that depending on how well they market this to catch as much attention as possible.
