Image: De La Hoya sees Mayweather stopping PacquiaoBy Chris Williams: Oscar De La Hoya gave his opinion recently about who he feels would be the winner in the hoped for mega fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao. De La Hoya, who really boxing inside and out, thinks Mayweather Jr. would completely dominate the smaller, less skilled Pacquiao and ultimately stop him inside the distance.

De La Hoya sees Pacquiao as the perfect fighter for Mayweather Jr. to tee off on and beat. There is something about the way that Pacquiao is constantly plodding forward and throwing wild punches that Mayweather would do really well against.

It’s hard to disagree with De La Hoya, because all it takes is one look at Pacquiao’s recent fight against Juan Manuel Marquez to tell you that Pacquiao would be in serious trouble against the likes of Mayweather. Pacquiao would be serious trouble in a rematch with Marquez, let alone in a fight with Mayweather. It’s basically academic at this point that Mayweather cleans Pacquiao’s clock if Bob Arum is confident enough to make the match. I doubt he will, especially after watching how bad Pacquiao looked agianst Marquez.

The judges gave Pacquiao a decision but because of the huge amount of criticism that the judges received for what was perceived by fans as a gift decision, it’s highly unlikely that Pacquiao will be given another decision in this manner if he struggles in the same way.

Mayweather easily beat Marquez by a one-sided 12 round decision two years ago when Marquez was even better than he is now. And that kind of tells you a little about the gulf in talent that exists between Mayweather and Pacquiao right now. De La Hoya saw what we all saw from the Pacquiao-Marquez III fight, and is rightfully picking Mayweather to beat Pacquiao. I don’t know about knocking Pacquiao out, but I think Mayweather would pick him clean in an embarrassing fashion if Bob Arum were to allow Pacquiao to fight Mayweather.
