Image: McDermott has tough task against David Price on November 19thBy Sean McDaniel: 6’8” unbeaten heavyweight David Price (11-0, 9 KO’s) is going to be giving boxing fans a pretty good idea of how much better he is compared to Tyson Fury when the 28-year-old Price faces Big John McDermott (26-7, 17 KO’s) on November 19th in a British heavyweight title eliminator bout at the Olympia in Liverpool, England.

Fury twice fought McDermott in the past, winning a controversial 10 round decision in September 2009, and then stopping McDermott in the 9th round in a rematch last year in June 2010. Fury didn’t look good in either of the fights though. Price will be showing the British public the difference between him and Fury in facing McDermott. It’s highly likely that the hard hitting Price will blow out McDermott in this fight.

Price has been looking very good in his last five fights, knocking out all five of his opponents. In his last bout last June, Price stopped Tom Dallas in the 2nd round.

McDermott is coming off an impressive 1st round knockout win over Larry Olubamiwo last February. McDermott came out fast and knocked Olubamiwo down twice in the process of getting the stoppage.

Price is going to be really difficult for McDermott to deal with because of his huge size advantage over the 6’3” McDermott. Price has shown the ability to throw with a lot of power with both his left and right hands. And unlike a lot of heavyweights, Price can throw with devastating power even when backing up. His short left hook is very power when he’s retreating, and it’s going to make it tough on McDermott to mount any kind of attack on November 19th.

With a win over McDermott, Price will become the mandatory challenger to Fury’s British heavyweight title. Will Fury face Price? I doubt it. Price hits too hard and Fury is too wide open. Look for Fury to vacate his British title rather than facing Price and getting knocked out.
