Image: Kessler-Stieglitz: Mikkel in a good position to capture the WBO belt on November 5By William Mackay: Former WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler (44-2, 33 KO’s) has picked the perfect champion to try and capture an easy title against on November 5th when he faces WBO super middleweight champion Robert Stieglitz (40-2, 23 KO’s) at the Parken, in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Kessler, 32, will be fighting at home in Denmark against arguably the weakest of the super middleweight champions. Things couldn’t be better for Kessler to be in the position to win another title. Stieglitz, 30, has held the World Boxing Organization title for the past two year, but hasn’t beaten anyone worth noting. Stieglitz won the title against Karoly Balzsay, a fighter considered to be the paper champion at the time. Stiegliz has defended the belt four times since then against beatable fighters.

Now he’s facing Kessler and things are going to be tough on him. Kessler dominated the last guy to beat Stieglitz, Librado Andrade in the past. Stieglitz was easily beaten by Andrade in 2008 in an 8th round TKO. However, that doesn’t mean that Kessler will have an easy time beating Stieglitz, because Kessler is older now, and he’s not the same fighter that dominated Andrade in March 2007. He is still very good, but is vulnerable against fighters that can punch and who take the fight to him.

Stieglitz, however, doesn’t have huge punching power and isn’t a pressure fighter. He’s more of a hit and move guy and that’s going to make it a lot easier for Kessler to take his WBO belt. Kessler fights really well when at home in Denmark where his fans seem to give him a jolt of energy. That is going to make Kessler even more dangerous than he already is.
