Fury defeats Chisora

By Dallan o’ Donnell: Tyson Fury has come through the biggest test of his career to beat Dereck Chisora by a 12 round unanimous decision and take home the British and Commonwealth heavyweight straps. It may not have been the prettiest show of the most skilful boxers in the world but the fight was dramatic and never lacked for entertainment. The final judges’ scores were 117-112, 117-112 and 118-111.

Chisora looked to have Fury in a dangerous predicament with wild swings of his dangerous right hand and often caught him when he lunged in to throw his big left hook, however only causing minimal damage to Fury who took all these shots whilst fighting back himself.

Chisora knew he had to take the fight early as he lacks the fitness to go the distance and this was proved tonight. Toward the end of the fight Chisora looked out of shape breathing heavily and not throwing too many punches.

Fury on the other hand looked fresh and was throwing punches in threes and fours often connecting yet he seemed to lack the power to really hurt Chisora. Fury almost gloated his way through the fight celebrating with his fans while the fight was still going on and in the middle of a round showing how confident he was to his legion of supporters.

Chisora never seemed likely to win when the fight went past the 8th round but Fury showed that he could keep his cool under pressure to see the fight out. It may have been a domestic classic, one that will go down as a contender for British fight of the year, but tonight both fighters proved they are Domestic level fighters at best.

Talk of the winner taking on Wladimir Klitschko is surely a joke as Klitschko would easily win a mismatch. A rematch wouldnt be a bad idea, and if Chisora took a leaf from Fury’s book and went on a proper diet, trained harder, getting himself into better shape then he may just have enough to match Fury for work rate next time. Fury has a bright future if he keeps himself disciplined and trains hard, Chisora now has to prove how much he wants big fights and big titles by coming back better and fitter than before.
