Saudi Official’s Gushing Praise of Fury Raises Concerns for Usyk’s Chances

His Excellency Turki Alalshikh called during today’s press conference, bathing Tyson Fury with praise, not even pretending to be neutral, labeling him a “beautiful diamond,” saying he wants him to “five to ten” more times.

Predictably, fans on social media reacted to the Alalshikh’s gushing compliments of WBC heavyweight champion Fury as a sign that IBF/WBA/WBO champ Oleksandr Usyk has NO chance of winning if it goes to the scorecards, leaving it to the judges for their undisputed clash on May 18th in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

If Fury loses to Usyk in their undisputed heavyweight championship fight on May 18th in Riyadh, I don’t see why the Saudis would want to bother with Tyson. I honestly don’t know what His Excellency Alalshikh sees in Fury. He looks bang-average, old, and not the spring chicken that he was a decade ago.

In my view, Usyk looks better in this match-up and is a shoo-in to win, provided we don’t get any bizarre scores turned in by the judges.

“Most Expensive Fighter” – Subtle as a Sledgehammer

You know now that you are the most expensive fighter. I won’t tell the numbers, but you know how much you get for this fight [against Oleksandr Usyk], and you deserve it. We will surprise the world,” said Alalshikh.

Usyk’s three belts might as well be props ahead of Fury’s victory. It doesn’t look good for the unified champion Usyk with the way His Excellency his smothering Fury with compliments from head to toe.

“We Want More Fury!” (Usyk? Who’s That?)

“We want Tyson for five, seven, or ten fights more. You are the most beautiful diamond boxing fighter,” said His Excellency Turki Alalshikh during today’s press conference, raving about Tyson Fury.

“You know what I have in my heart. I see you as one of the best fighters in the generation, and I’m thinking we will have a big relationship in the boxing field,” Alalshikh continued.

It almost sounds like Alalshikh is ready to ditch Usyk before the fight has even started and crowing Fury, the undisputed champion, without a punch being thrown.

Fans Call It Like They See It

One poster remarked: “So it’s clear now, Usyk is fighting against Fury, against the referee, against the judges. He needs a Knockout, or he gets robbed.”

Alalshikh’s sugar-coated praise of the ‘Gypsy King’ Fury suggests that poor Usyk could be facing an uphill battle on May 18th. Hopefully, we don’t see another robbery involving Fury, as we witnessed in his last fight in Riyadh against Francis Ngannou last October.

I hate to say it, but Usyk might need a miracle to get fair treatment from the judges. That gushy praise His Excellency Alalshikh gave to Fury is a bad signal, especially the bit about Tyson being a “beautiful diamond boxing fighter.” Oh man, that remark was telling.

The picture looks bleak for Usyk, who unfortunately can’t punch, so he will have to count on receiving a fair shake from the judges.
