The upcoming showdown for undisputed heavyweight supremacy between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk is quickly approaching, with their May 18th date just around the corner, and I have seen one question being asked more and more often as we get closer to the big day.

Will Oleksandr Usyk get a fair shake against Tyson Fury?

It is a fair question. Afterall, boxing has a long rich history of shady, questionable, and controversial decisions that are historically predicated on either utter incompetence or perhaps outright corruption. As an appropriate example, right now we have not had an undisputed world heavyweight champion in almost a quarter of a century, and the last time we had a long gap (although that gap of nearly 7 years was short by comparison) without an undisputed heavyweight world champion. We were supposed to finally get one in March 1999 when unified WBA/IBF heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield squared off against WBC and lineal world heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis. The fight, however, ended in a controversial draw where most observers believed Lewis deserved to win.

Tyson Fury is the clear A-side going in against Usyk, reportedly earning significantly more money. On top of that, even though Usyk has already twice beaten Anthony Joshua, AJ remains the biggest draw in heavyweight boxing. The prospects of a long awaited showdown between Fury and AJ would still represent the #1 biggest fight that can be made in all of boxing today.

So will Oleksandr Usyk get a fair shake in his upcoming undisputed heavyweight championship bout against Tyson Fury?

This edition of Rummy’s Corner will explore the answer to that question and also provide a quick preview of the upcoming showdown for undisputed heavyweight supremacy between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk. Please watch and enjoy the video for one man’s opinion. This is Rummy’s Corner (produced and narrated by Geoffrey Ciani).
