Pacquiao does it better than Mayweather

By John F. McKenna (McJack): When Floyd “Money” Mayweather (41-0, 25 KO’s) fought Oscar De Lahoya he eked out a split decision. When Floyd took on Ricky Hatton he had all kinds of problems for eight rounds before finally figuring him out and knocking him out in the 10th round.

An over the hill “Sugar” Shane Mosley came close to knocking Mayweather down and possibly out in the early rounds of their Mega Fight in 2010. Floyd ultimately scored a one sided unanimous decision over Mosley who continued to attempt to make a fight of it through 12 rounds.

Conversely, when Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao (53-3-2, 38 KO’s) fought Oscar De Lahoya, the “Pacman” totally annihilated Oscar, causing him to quit on his stool after eight rounds.

It took Pacquiao less than a round to figure out Ricky Hatton. Manny knocked down Hatton twice in the first round and he knocked out his totally outclassed opponent in the 2nd round. The knockout was so devastating that it was called the “Knockout of the Year” by “Ring Magazine”. Hatton has not fought since.

When Manny took on Shane Mosley he knocked him down in the 3rd round. It was only the 3rd knockdown in Shane’s long career. When Mosley arose he had a look of bewilderment and fear on his face. He got on his bicycle and stayed there for the remainder of the fight. Mosley’s only concern at that point was not becoming a knockout victim for the first time in his career. Shane would later say that he had never been hit so hard by any opponent.

Of course Floyd Mayweather refers to Manny’s success against these opponents as “Fighting my leftovers”. It is also his way of demeaning Manny and squirming out of fighting him by coming up with silly excuses.

When Manny fought Juan Manuel Marquez in 2004 and 2008 he was struggling with his weight according to his trainer Freddie Roach. Those fights were at 126 and 130 pounds.

When Floyd Mayweather fought Marquez the contracted weight was 144 pounds. Floyd chose to cheat on the scales and came in two pounds over 144 pounds. By fight time Mayweather had a significant weight advantage over Marquez. He refused a request by HBO to be weighed at fight time.

When Manny Pacquiao enters the ring in November against Juan Manuel Marquez (52-5-1, 38 KO’s) he will be sending a message not only to Marquez, but also to Floyd Mayweather. The message being that Manny is a superior fighter to Marquez and that whatever Floyd does he will do better and do it without having to cheat.
