Image: Haye: I have to land my hayemakers on Wladimir's chin asap to winBy Sean McDaniel: WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (25-1, 23 Ko’s) seems to finally have acknowledged what he’s up against in his July 2nd fight against IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (55-3, 49 KO’s) by saying that he has to get to Wladimir early in order to avoid something bad happening to him.

In an interview at thesun.co.uk, Haye said “I know Wlad is better than anyone I have fought. I know what his attributes are if I llow him to implement them it will be catastrophic for me. The key is landing my big hayemakers on his chin ASAP, that’s it.”

With his weak chin and his dislike for taking punishment, Haye doesn’t have the time to wait until the 3rd round before attacking Wladimir. If Haye waits that long he may always be badly bruised (if still standing) and possibly punch drunk from Wladimir’s crushing jabs, left hooks and right hands. As such, Haye will have to storm after Wladimir immediately and try and land a big enough right hand that it stuns Wladimir enough to where he’s rendered nearly senseless. Haye would then be able to finish off a badly hurt Wladimir.

The thing with Haye is that his first punch from the outside is usually his best. Once he gets in close, Haye’s power becomes much less as he doesn’t have leverage to throw with the same kind of authority. If Haye can’t take out Wladimir from the outside with one big shot, Haye may end up failing when he crashes forward to throw his wild flurries.
