Khan dismissive of Brook challenge

Image: Khan dismissive of Brook challengeBy William Mackay: World Boxing Association (WBA) light welterweight champion Amir Khan doesn’t appear to be interested in fighting undefeated Kell Brook. Khan needs an opponent for his next fight in April in the UK.

Khan’s former promoter Frank Warren suggested that Khan face Brook, who’s ranked number #1 by the World Boxing Organization welterweight division. Sounds like a great idea, right? Wrong. Khan isn’t interested in taking on the dangerous Brook for some reason. Why, I have no idea.

Brook has been compared to Naseem Hamed and is loaded with talent. Compared to Khan’s last opponent Marcos Maidana, who Khan failed to prove that he was better than, Brook is a lot more skilled and just as powerful.

It seems like a reasonable fight for Khan to take if he’s interested in impressing fans in the UK. It’s no brainer. Either that fight against Brook or a rematch with Breidis Prescott, a fighter that obliterated Khan in one round two years ago.

Khan’s not interested in Prescott either. The fighter that’s mentioned mostly as Khan’s next opponent is the weak punching Lamont Peterson. He recently fought to a 10 round draw with Victor Ortiz in a fight in which Peterson was knocked down twice, bloodied and beaten up pretty well. I had Ortiz winning by four rounds. It was really bad scoring if you ask me.

This is what Khan had to say about Brook in his twitter page: “Lol frank warren has offered me Kell Brook, ask him what I use to do to him in sparring, Frank promised Jennings a rematch with brook… Promises shouldn’t be broken.”

I heard that this so called sparring occurred five years ago when Brook was a teenager and that it was Brook who got the better of the action, not Khan. It’s strange how fighters see things differently after a number of years. Whatever the case, that was sparring with nice protective headgear on to protect fighters with weak chins. I’d like to see Khan fight without head gear on against Brook. I’d put my money on Brook winning that fight without any problems once he connects with one of his hard right hands.

I see Brook as being a lot better than Peterson and much more dangerous in terms of power. Could be that Khan doesn’t want to face him because he’s afraid of being knocked out?
