Image: Warren should match DeGale vs. Paul Smith on 12/11By Scott Gilfoid: Frank Warren has postponed the October 23rd his Liverpool Echo Arena card and moved it to December 11th. British super middleweight champion Paul Smith (29-1, 15 KO’s) was set to face Paul David (12-5, 5 KO’s) in a title bout that had be bored to tears.

Now the fight has been moved to December 11th, and James DeGale (8-0, 6 KO’s) and Kell Brook are going to be on the same card on that date. I have an idea, though. Instead of matching the inexperienced David against Smith, how about putting DeGale in with Smith?

I think that would be a great fight, because even though DeGale has only eight fights under his belt, I’d pick him any day of the week to beat Smith. This goes beyond experience. DeGale simply has loads of talent and I think he’s the best super middleweight in the UK, better than Carl Froch, and George Groves.

I think Warren could really help this card out if he would lose David and replace him with DeGale. I think it would be a gutsy move on Warren’s part but I think it would sell tickets and it would be a great fight for DeGale. It wouldn’t be so bad for Smith. Once he gets beaten, he could move up to the European level and compete there.

But DeGale needs to branch out and get better quality opposition. When you have a Gold Medal like DeGale, you need to fight for ions and ions against 2nd tier opposition. Besides, I see Smith as a 2nd tier fighter anyway, so Warren might as well match DeGale with Smith right now and let’s get it over with. You can’t keep a talent like DeGale down.
