Mayweather needs to beat Pacquiao already and move onto other opponents

Image: Mayweather needs to beat Pacquiao already and move onto other opponentsBy Dave Lahr: I’m getting tired of waiting for Floyd Mayweather Jr. to finally decide to beat Manny Pacquiao. Mayweather has been taking his time about this since he totally dominated Shane Mosley on May 1st. I don’t blame Mayweather one bit for not fighting Pacquiao in March, because Pacquiao wouldn’t agree to the 14 day blood testing cutoff that Mayweather wanted for the fight. But I just want Mayweather to get it over with and fight Pacquiao and drill him to pieces so Floyd can move on to more interesting fighters.

The thing of it is if Mayweather doesn’t speak up soon, we’ll have to see Pacquiao probably get matched up against Miguel Cotto again. I don’t want to see that. I know there’s people who do, but they might have a change of mind afterwards when Pacquiao dominates Cotto again and they’re out $50 for having paid to watch it.

Pacquiao has beaten some guys in the past couple of years that I think were perfect for him to look good against. Oscar De La Hoya was old and weight drained, Ricky Hatton was at the point in his career where he was struggling and no longer dominating, Cotto had recently been destroyed by Antonio Margarito and had to fight Pacquiao at a catch weight of 145 pounds and Joshua Clottey had proven to have problems throwing a lot of punches and fading late in his fights.

I think that was good match making by Pacquiao’s promoter to put him in with those fighters but I think Pacquiao would have been beaten by Juan Manuel Marquez in a rematch, and I also think Shane Mosley, Sergio Martinez and Paul Williams would have beaten Pacquiao as well. But Mayweather is a whole different matter. I think he’s going to easily beat Pacquiao and win every round of the fight even easier than he did in his win over Mosley.

I’ll be happy when Mayweather finally destroys Pacquiao and gets him behind him, because this whole sordid affair has gone on far too long and it’s given people the impression that Pacquiao is in the same league as Mayweather. But I’ll be so happy once Mayweather trounces Pacquiao and sends him packing. Mayweather then can get to more serious matters of taking on the likes of Martinez, Williams and James Kirkland. Those are the fights that I see as the ones that will carve Mayweather’s legacy, not a fight against the 5’6” Pacquiao.

I see that as a slaughter of the first order. It’s going to be too easy for Mayweather to win that fight. I can see that one getting out of hand really quickly after a round or two with Pacquiao getting drilled in the face over and over again without being able to land any of his own punches. With Pacquiao’s face reddening, swelling up like a large pumpkin, Freddie Roach, Pacquiao’s trainer, won’t know what to do.

He’ll see his dream of a legacy building win over Mayweather going quickly down the drain and will be shifting his mental gears from 1st to 4th without being able to come up with any ideas other than to “throw a lot of punches.” I can just see it. Pacquiao getting drilled to pieces and Roach staring in horror, unable to do a thing to stop the brutal slaughter
