Adrien Broner would be huge threat to Pacquiao

Image: Adrien Broner would be huge threat to PacquiaoBy Chris Williams: WBO super featherweight champion Adrien Broner (23-0, 19 KO’s) is setting the boxing world on fire with his amazing hand speed, power and his Floyd Mayweather Jr-like fighting style. Broner has Mayweather’s style completely memorized at this point and perfectly incorporated into his own fight game. Broner isn’t just blindly copying Mayweather without success.

Broner is using the same moves that Mayweather has and succeeding big time with them. We just saw that last Saturday night with his 4th round TKO win over a very good Eloy Perez. That was supposed to be a tough fight for Broner, yet Perez never laid a glove on him and it turned out to be a huge mismatch.

Right now, I have doubts about Mayweather ever getting a fight against Pacquiao because the Filipino star has priced himself out of the fight by asking for a 50-50 deal, which is absurd given how he’s fighting now. But I think Broner vs. Pacquiao is a fight that can be made because Broner probably won’t mind Pacquiao hogging the most of the revenue to himself just as long as Broner can get the fight with him.

Broner, 22, is fighting at 130 right now, and that’s only 15 pounds under what Pacquiao is fighting. That’s nothing. Pacquiao usually comes into his fights around 145, so that’s a mere 15 pounds. Pacquiao wouldn’t have much of any weight advantage in this fight and we’d have the Mayweather-esque Broner working his magic on Pacquiao just like the real thing. Mayweather Jr. wouldn’t even be needed because I can see Broner taking care of Pacquiao, picking him apart with counter punches much in the way he did Perez last Saturday. I honestly believe that Broner would make a sap out of Pacquiao and expose him even worse than Marquez did last November, except that Broner would beat Pacquiao so badly that there would be little question who the winner is.

I like the Broner-Pacquiao fight, but I don’t think it can happen unfortunately. Broner is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions, whereas Pacquiao is a Top Rank fighter. I can’t see Arum letting Pacquiao fight Broner. I can just see the excuses flying every which way from – an outdoor stadium needing to be build to the fight needing more time to marinate.
