Adrien Broner’s Comeback Bid Hit with Cruel Taunts: Haney’s Dad Rules Out Title Fight

Adrien Broner is working hard training for a comeback and looking slim & and in shape for what he and his coach, Kevin Cunningham, hope will be a title fight against WBC light welterweight champion Devin Haney.

The former four-division world champion Broner (35-4-1, 24 KOs) has won his last two fights against no-name opposition, but now he’s finally ready to get serious about taking on a top-level guy, Haney, and recapturing world title glory.

However, Devin’s dad, trainer Bill Haney, ruled out a fight with the 34-year-old Broner this week, cruelly saying that AB would be commenting on one of Dev’s fights before he gets a chance to ever face him.

Broner’s trainer, Kevin Cunningham, took exception with Bill’s remark, calling him a “Bootleg pimp”, and telling him to “send the contract.”

Cunningham could be wasting his time because the Saudis want to bring Haney over to their country for a fight against Gervonta Davis, and they’re likely to be paying massive money for both fighters.

Even if the fight doesn’t happen, Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) could move up to 147 to fight one of the welterweights next if he chooses to vacate his WBC 140-lb title. Haney has a mandatory defense due against Sandor Martin and needs to face him or relinquish his title.

This bootleg pimp [Bill Haney] perpetrating a trainer got the nerve to disrespect a four-weight champion. First of all, Adrien Broner ain’t never ran from a fight and never will. Secondly, your son [Devin Haney] ain’t no killer and don’t do numbers. Stop the cap. Send the contract,” said Kevin Cunningham, the trainer for Broner, on X.

“AB will be commentating Devin’s fights before he gets in the ring with Dev to fight, I guarantee it,” said Bill Haney on social media, making it known that Broner won’t be allowed to challenge Haney for his WBC light welterweight title.

Broner has fought just twice in the last three years, beating Bill Hutchinson and Jovanie Santiago. With AB nearing 35, it’s critical that he get in the best shape possible, stay active, and get serious about his career because he’s running out of time.

You can argue that Broner has burned his bridges due to his lack of results and inactivity, and the top promoters aren’t interested in signing him now.
