Image: McCloskey-Prescott: Breidis will make easy work of Paul in front of his home fans on 9/10By Scott Gilfoid: Paul McCloskey (22-1, 12 KO’s) reminds me of someone that has gambled and lost big time, but who can’t control his gambling instincts. You got to know your limitations. McCloskey just lost to WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan, and now McCloskey is trying to get a second chance at Khan by facing the guy that knocked Khan into oblivion Breidis Prescott (24-2, 19 KO’s) on September 10th at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast, Ireland.

It’s too bad that McCloskey’s dream of facing Khan a second time will never happen. It’s a no win situation for McCloskey. Prescott is going to come out quickly, back the weak-hitting McCloskey up with some powerful jabs and then drop the bomb on him with a big left hook that will send McCloskey down flat on his back in front of his shocked Irish crowd. McCloskey will look up and wonder where he’s at. He’s not going to be able to clear his head in time to make it back to his feet. If he does, Prescott will line him up for another left hook and take McCloskey’s head off. It’s going to be like watching a replay of Khan-Prescott.

I really respect McCloskey for taking this fight, because Khan wants no part of Prescott even now after three long years of avoiding him. I still think McCloskey is stupid for taking this fight though. He’s going to lose so bad his head is going to be spinning. McCloskey is much better off going back to fighting the local fodder like the kinds of guys he build his 22-1 record.

McCloskey needs to be back fighting the likes of Barry Morrison, Colin Lynes and Nigel Wright. Those are guys that McCloskey is capable of beating, but not world class talents like Prescott. There are levels in boxing and McCloskey is simply not meant to be fighting a guy on the same level as Prescott. He’s going to be put in his place by Prescott on September 10th. Hopefully, this will teach McCloskey that he needs to stay at his level and be content.
