Marquez needs to demand 50-50 purse split for Pacquiao fifth fight

marquez9By Chris Williams: If Manny Pacquiao and his promoter Bob Arum are so eager for a fifth fight with Juan Manuel Marquez (55-6-1, 40 KO’s) then they need to accept a straight 50-50 deal with Marquez. I think that’s exactly what Marquez should be asking for when it comes to the negotiations for their fifth fight.

He’s already arguably beaten Pacquiao in all four fights, but only been given credit for one of them when he finally took the judges out of the game by knocking Pacquiao out cold last December.

Marquez needs to realize that Pacquiao and Arum really need him so that Pacquiao can have his credibility as a top fighter boosted back up with another decision win. Marquez is in a position of greater power than he thinks, and he needs to take full advantage of it with the Filipino and Arum.

Pacquiao vs. Marquez 5: Arum should consider Manny’s health before making this fight

marquez81By Babatis Banda: By any standard, what happened that week-end was not good at all. We all support one fighter against the other, but when you see that kind of a knockout, it turns your whole stomach upside down. For a moment, I thought Manny Pacquiao was never going to stand and walk out of that ring, but on a stretcher.

The knock-down in the third round was an indicator that Marquez had it in him to take out Pacquiao, just like he had promised to do. Marquez was clearly the slower of the two; I guess he deliberately traded speed for power.

Whether the knock-out was a clear lucky punch, like some people are suggesting, does not really matter. Besides, it is not possible to tell a lucky punch from something else because punches are all thrown with the same purpose and intention, to hurt the opponent.

Marquez should fight somebody else other than Pacquiao

marquez412By Babatis Banda: Four times is already enough. In other words, are we saying that up to now we can’t tell the better fighter of the two? I thought this was already settled going into the 4th fight. It was agreed that the better fighter would be the one that wins the 4th bout?

I understand that team Pacquiao feels Marquez should return the favour by giving Manny a 5th bout. I also hold the view that it should not be so, because the reason why these two have fought up to the 4th fight is because the previous three were so close and so controversial. The 4th fight was by far definitive and conclusive, and it never gets any better than that…never.

Marquez should fight either Bradley or Mayweather Jnr. Bradley would make a particularly interesting fight because that is the one with uncertainty. Mayweather is almost certain to beat Marquez however hard he trains. Styles make fights and Mayweather has a perfect style to beat Marquez again buy a shut-out margin just like in the first fight. I really see no sense in another Marquez/Pacquiao bout if not for the money. The scores are settled, and convincingly too.

Garcia: Marquez shouldn’t fight Pacquiao again; he should face Mayweather

marquez9By Chris Williams: Trainer Robert Garcia is recommending that Juan Manuel Marquez not bother facing Manny Pacquiao for a fifth fight later this year in September. Garcia thinks Marquez has nothing to gain from that fight other than money because he already knocked Pacquiao out cold in the 6th round in their fourth fight last December.

Garcia told esnewsreporting.com “If I was Marquez, I wouldn’t fight the 5th fight. You already knocked him out cold, and 20 years, 50 years and 100 years from now, people will still be talking about how you knocked him out and you’re better than him. If they fight again and Manny beats him, because Pacquiao may beat him, what will people say? That punch was just a lucky punch. He [Marquez] could find just as big a fight against Mayweather.”

Arum: Pacquiao doesn’t want to fight in U.S because the taxes are too high

arum343By Chris Williams: Bob Arum, the promoter for Manny Pacquiao, says his fighter doesn’t want to fight in the United States because of the taxes being too high on his huge purses that he gets from U.S pay per view money and the large gates that he attracts in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Arum thinks the taxes have gotten out of hand and he believes it will keep the top foreign fighters from wanting to fight in the U.S anymore.

Arum said to espn.co.uk “These big foreign fighters don’t want to fight in the United States. He [Pacquiao] doesn’t want to fight in the United States. How come? Because he’d have to give close to 40% to the government…It’s getting ridiculous.”

Hatton: Pacquiao should retire 100%

pac56By Chris Williams: Ricky Hatton believes it’s time for Manny Pacquiao to get out of the sport of boxing after his brutal 6th round knockout loss to Juan Manuel Marquez last December. Hatton saw the knockout and was shocked by it, and he thinks Manny should get out of boxing for the sake of his health and family. Hatton doesn’t think Pacquiao has anything to accomplish at this stage by sticking it out and taking further risks by fighting on.

Hatton said to fighthubtv.com “I felt so bad for Manny and his poor wife. It’s not nice seeing someone knocked out like that. I’d like to see Manny retire now. There’s nothing more he can do. 100 percent [Pacquiao should retire].”

Pacquiao vs. Marquez 5 in Mexico in September: The crowd will work against Manny

pac111By Chris Williams: Bob Arum needs to think hard about the possible outcome of putting his top cash cow Manny Pacquiao in a fight with Juan Manuel Marquez in September in Mexico City, Mexico. I don’t think Arum quite realizes what a huge gift he’s giving Marquez by putting the fight in Mexico.

Arum just thinking about the huge amount of taxes he can safe Pacquiao and Marquez by staging the fight there, but I don’t think he realizes how much of a benefit this is going to be for Marquez to be able to fight in front of a crowd that will likely almost all Mexican.
